Does anyone recognise this IS that I've bought? I'm sure I seen it on here a few years ago but I can't remeber,

Going by the paperwork, it has spent a lot of its life down south in Southampton

Here's the pistonheads add, ignore all the baby m3 crap

looks nice to me !

maybe try get it confirmed it is an lsd on the car still, good price too if its rot free etc have you had a good poke around ? go to bmw and get it confirmed its all factory and not added later options, good price if all factory etc, nice car

spose the only thing you could pick out if being picky, is that if hes that much of an entheusiast and owned 4 is`s as he says..he ought to know its not a recaro interior

It's an interesting spec, sunroof, maplight, LSD and rear headrests. Someone spent up on that when it was new !

ripe for some valvage action when the fizz bomb m42 poowah house thrill wears off.

normally after 100 miles, the best quote i've read about an m42 is after 7k no one can hear you scream :D

great looking car, looks like mine and that is from the south coast also.

got to love the m42 fuel consumption  much easier to live with day to day compared with the 2.5 I had before, and not much slower

agree with fuel comsumption, im learning that with many trips to the garage !!

to be fair, i sold my is for a 325i...and to say its not much slower, is 8O , and theres a massive difference in putting your foot on the pedal, after the 325, the is feels like theres no guts there, you rev it and its like theres nothing, put your foot down in the 325i you have the roar, you feel the power of the engine revving, and when driving theres instant response , was all good in my is before i knew better, but once i bought the 325 and had them both sat there, and could of kept both, getting in the is just wasnt the same sadly, felt like nothing under the foot, the is is a nice drive when you dont know anything else, but you just cant go back or compare, but i absoloutly loved my is for the time i had it, nice cars for sure until you taste the 325

2nd/3rd gear in a 325i just blows the is out of the water, they are nothing alike when you want a bit of smile to your face boost

there really isn't that massive a difference and an m20 325 isn't even fast. A modern day diseasal would smoke one

The noise of an m20 is much better than the m42, and this adds to the whole driving experience and it makes you feel like you are going much faster, but in reality your not

An m52 on the otherhand, that would be nice

depends how you look at it and what end product you want, if some people want a 24v they go and buy a newer bmw or a modern car

if you want a nice all round classic car and old school driving expirience and a car that brings a smile to your face and a pleasure to own and drive without being about out and out speed

or you can wack a 24v engine in one , which in some cars yes can be nice and nice to drive i bet like a sleeper standard sort of e30, but you then take away half of the old school factor of it and its then not a proper classic old school car

but horses for courses and everyones different, and an 80s e30 325i sport isnt an 80s 325i sport if its had a modern 90s/00s engine put in it

old school originality ftw
