Ok soon is time for my suspension overhaul and im also considering getting myself some springs to lower it,
Now on here Ive seen alot of people go for 60F/40R for both looks and handling benefits..
just wondering if 60mm drop is a bit much for a car with the sump so low?
If anyone has any dropped in this way could you give me some pros and cons please? or anyone who has a different set-up your advice is welcomed!
Thanx in advance for the replies peeps

are you talking about a cabby, a 2 door or one of the disgusting 4 door variants ?
Last person I knew with a 60mm front drop on a cab lost his sump on a pothole and it cost him a new engine.

I have 70/50 on 16" rims and it's taken about 6 months to wear through the sump. It only catches on narrow country lanes where the middle of the road is high.

My touring is approx 80mm front 50mm rear on coilovers. The sump sits about 40mm off the road (engine has been lifted for more clearance) , however to avoid any nasty sump incidents I have created a sump guard out of 3mm steel, now I have no concerns.
60mm drop should be no problem at all.

Am I wrong or is the M42 sump lower than the M20?

Either way,the advice above regarding a 3mm sump guard should be taken on board!

you shouldn't have problems with sump clearance on a 60mm front drop unless you are running on rubber band profile tyres.
Generally though, you are going to start to compromise the ride quality once you go beyond a 40mm drop. A 60 drop defo looks better, but a 40 would leave you with a better feeling car IMO.
I'm on 55 drop at the front and I am changing to a 40 drop as soon as I can be arsed to pull the front struts off.

its fine if you are aware when driving, certainly won't get stuck anywhere unless you have a big low front spoiler of some sort

I have had no problems with a 60/40 drop on my is, except once when having to drive through a huge pothole the width of the road. But if you're careful the sump can be kept out of trouble

mine is 60/40, and i have had no problems, however i pull up on a kerb at the front of my house, and only just notice that the sump is literally, brushing the moss,
my engine has been lifted slightly as well

I can just fit a can of pepsi under my sump, had two incidents one where I hit a manhole cover that was pretruding the ground. The other when a garage drove it too fast over a brake tester.
Although I've never really had any normal day to day issues, apart from driving on some really poor roads.

Go for 40mm drop and if you want some more at the front you can fit E90 front drop hats and it will bring the front down 15mm whilst still giving a compliant ride

A 'look', of a type, you may get, but there certainly won't be any handling benefits with this kind of crude lowering.

+1
The 'look' is not considered a good one either, except amongst fellow 'unterhench' types

60/40 with shit dampers, soft springs will be a nightmare, kill your sump in no time and will handle like crap..

"preferred lowering style" is to raise the suspension mounting points in the body, so as to keep the geometry correct. Effectively lowering the body on the chassis.

I had the H&R 60/40 on my cab ... lost my front valance twice and the exhaust used to hit speed bumps. Now have the Eibach 40mm springs and everything is fine.

will prob be a choice between them two companies though

I've had a 60/40 H&R cup kit (205.55.15 tyres not rubber bands) on mine for a couple of years now and apart from a minor scrape to the iS lip (caused by going from a very steeply inclined driveway onto the road) I've had no problems at all. OK so I don't go haring over speed humps or aim for pot-holes at speed, but then it's mad to do that anyway. It handles extremely well, there's virtually no compromise in drive quality and it looks just right.

I am now the proud owner of said cab, and have took the ridiculous springs back off and replaced with -30 and even at that its still low but way more drivable.
