E30 Zone

Car felt a little 'floaty' for a while, and was in the middle of absolutely no where, so drove slowly back home, and then suddenly the whole car was shaking very bad. Well this is why:

Bloody hell! One of my rear tyres is wearing on its inner edge too, I'd better get that sorted asap so I don't end up like you have!

Glad to know you didn't damage the car or yourself when that let go.

Mine wasn't worn on the inner edge. I believe it had a slow puncture, when then turned into a faster puncture! It must've got hot running with little air in it, and then tore itself apart!

What drop are you running?

Did you have stretched tires as well?

No tyres weren't stretched. I don't know what drop i'm actually running. I haven't touched the suspension since getting the car. The only thing I know is that the rears rub when ppl are in the back, and they never used to a year or so ago :S Springs are fine, as are dampers. However front dampers are soft as s***, so that may contribute to the load transfer to the rear.

However, nobody was in the back when this happened, and the boot was empty

could be your beam bushes playing up boss, when they are starting to go they make the rear sag a bit more.
as far as i can tell your only on about a 40 drop though but i expect with the 17s arch room is a little tight.

Is that a nankang tyre? If so this is about the third or fourth e30 on 17's that has had this happen with a nankang.

No not a Nankang. What causes this to happen to Nankang 17s then?

That just looks like the - camber from a 40mm drop has warn the inside edges of your Fedrals. They are a wide tread which would account for the rubbing on the arch too.

Ask Danthe about camber adjustment tabs on the rear beam. Plus replace the beam bushes at the same time.

Driving on a flat tyre is dangerous, especially with E30 rear camber as the rim is riding on the side wall which is whats happened to yours. I had a low tyre (not flat) on my E34 and decided to drive it carefully round the corner to the garage to blow it up, 500 yards max, when I took it off a few hours later to fix the puncture it had fcked the inner side wall

This is the most drastic puncture ive had though -



Pair of pliers in the road, went through the tyre, through the rim and then through the brake back plate and bounced off the edge of the disc..

Similar thing happened about a 18months ago, although my tyres were brand new. (running 17s)
Coming back from the airport, the rear left was rubbing like crazy. Thought it was the weight of the passengers & baggage, even though it never rubbed before.
Turned out the rear beam bushes needed replacing, luckily, damage wise, I just needed a new tyre.

How can I tell if the rear beam bushes have definitely gone? Am I right in thinking 'special' tools are needed because it's a pig of a job ?!

We went on a Euro road trip last summer in a E300 Merc estate,we were doin over a ton on the autobann when we got a serious vibration in the back.
