As title, anyone know where I can get a wheel stud setup from for a normal 4x100 E30? Fed up of fannying about lining up spacers and extended bolts.

best bet would be to smooth bore the bolt holes and press ford studs in, there 12mm with a slight spline on, so can be pressed into an e30 hub that has had the m12 holes drilled.
havent done it yet, but i do have some ford studs floating about i can measure for you.
its also a very common thing in motorsport circles, because ford studs are cheep, available and reliable.

Cheers, hadn't considered the ford studs.
Rallynuts do a set of generic conversion studs which would make life a lot easier, as don't have the tools to smooth bore the hubs myself. These seem about right:

E30 bolts are M12 I believe but does anyone know the length? Can't take one off to measure at the mo. 1.5" I think?
I know Vorschlag in the US do a kit similar to the Rallynuts one, but I don't know anyone that's used it or if the loctite + screw in studs holds well enough.

that works, but the ford studs go in from the back of the hub and have a flange, i personally would prefer having th knowledge that the studs cant pull through and that there is no way for them to come unscrewed from the front of the hub.
my sugestion would be to get a pair of new front hubs and ask around here for someone that can drill the hubs out.
anyone with a good quality pillar drill and a reamer to finish the holes with. after that the studs have a slight spline on them so will just press in and stay nice and tight.

The threads are about 30mm long on the standard bolts, the length of your studs will obviously depend how thick your spacers are, which wheels you want to use and the depth of the nuts you use. I found a guy selling loads of different lengths on ebay, phoned the number and ordered 16 studs and nuts for about £40, I think I bought 70mm so I can also use VW wheels with 20-25mm spacers. Just locktited them in wound down to the shoulder so they are not going to come out by accident.

Out of all the cars ive worked on its always the old fords that the studs fall out of while trying to adjust the rear brakes
Like you say, the problem with press in studs is you need to take the hubs/bearings off, which means fcking them up and buying new

there modern fiesta/ka/focus type, the older ford studs are 10mm iirc.
they should work fine as screw in ones, id worry about break heat and locktight though, the heat could melt it.

I've done this on my E36 track car with no problems. Got the screw in studs from Demon Tweeks who do loads of different lengths to suit your requirements.

It might melt it but it wouldnt be bad news unless the nut/stud threads were rusty or shitty and pulled the stud out the hub, its not like they are going to unscrew on their own. The loading/stretching of the stud is better than a bolt anyway so you are always going to have a better hold onto the hub
Any 2.8 updates Mr Screech?

no your probably right, and there no worse than the 8mm mini wheel studs i guess.
im just paranoid about wheel fixture, its one of the things i always like to do right.
provided the studs are in correctly then it should be fine, i guess once they are through the hub it wouldnt take much to stake the exposed ends/threads sticking out the back of the hub.
2.8 updates are pending.
im working as we speak on zone steel rockers. im hoping/its looking like they can be built for the price of new genuine ones.
(maybe even roller rockers if i can get the cam profile to work......)

I have the standard screw in versions and they were used with thread lock. If left to cure are very strong and at the moment i can't undo them from the old hubs.

I got my conversion studs from Rally design and Larkspeed(IIRC)
M12 x 1.5mm screw pitch (up to 80mmk long)
M12 x 1.5/1.25 (100mm long if needed)
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/index.php?cPath=731_738
http://www.larkspeed.com/index.pl?c=WHE ... s=category
You'll also require 16 wheel nuts to go with them

time to dig up an old thread
fingers crossed if it stays dry i'll be doing my own stud & nut conversion on my sport,
after doing some digging around i managed to find all the studs & nuts (80mm m12x1.5 studs & 19mm open nuts) for £40 from jjc rally as i didnt fancy paying £80+ then p&p from some sellers on ebay.
also got a fair amount (probs more than i need) of loctite red threadlocker to keep the studs in.
i know that because of the length of the studs i might not be able to use my center caps but at least that stops some little scrote trying to nick them.
so, wish me luck lol.
