Looks Like My E30 Story Is Now Over....

... basically i had my license revoked in October last year and i am retaking my test to get it back a week on wednesday... when it first got revoked i rang a few insurance companies and managed to get my insurance in at £2k fully comp which i was happy with with 6 points on my license for my touring... so today i rang up to confirm with them the price and arrange for it to start the day after my test (over confidence i know) only to be told now that thanks to the price hike on insurance and change in legislation and all that jazz they can no longer insure me.... and i've tried all online companies and cheapest i have found is now £5125.55 tpf&t and i am NOT willing to pay that on a 21 yr old car i paid £500.

i'm waiting for brentacre to call me back to get a quote from them and i'm also going to try skye but after that i think i will give up.... so then i will remove my polizei graphics and green vinyl, paint the car and sell it on i think..... i'm absolutely devastated :(

hey mate

do not use price comparison sites, do not!!!!

i had a similar issue with quotes coming in at about £3.5-£5k and was told by someone firmly in the know that Tesco online gave the best quotes... and they did. be totally truthful with them, go for tesco value insurance and pick a higher excess but my fully comp figure on my 325i came in at £1.5k in the end... and as it was only £150 more expensive than insuring a ford ka i opted for the E30.

PM me if you like, will help all i can.

cheers,
rich

Try and insure it like you're 17 again, but an adult on there with good no claims and have you as named driver, probs the only way you'll get a reasonable quote

To add to the above, online prices aren't always the best.
Sometimes a face to face chat with a High St Brokers can produce dividends.
No pun intended. Good luck anyway.

i tried all the permutations, mate, by adding friends and relatives all with great records but the only way to get it cheaper was by getting a friend to insure it under his name and then me being a named driver.. and this did reduce it by a few hundred but i'd rather the extra expense and start cleaning up my own insurance record for my NCB.

just my opinion though!

Tesco wanted 2.5k to insure my 328i Touring.. I paid £409 in the end.

Meerkats actually gave me a very good quote through Swiftcover also.

I never ever use comparison site for modded cars, especially my own.
Last time I did, they cam back with high quotes or unsureable  and at my age with a clean license for the last 17 yrs too.

I'm currently with Sky on here, they were the best quote I got, not the cheapest mind, but I read through my cover and they covered most things.

I had the top up rules hit me. I had 6 points before taking my car test from my motorbikes. 18 months later i got caught doing 36 in a 30 on what looked like a 40 road. the following month i would have been on 0 points again :( went back on the bikes for 2 years before taking my test again. by the watch out for the new uninsured car rules or it will be another kick in the teeth :(

yep... proper kick in the bollocks as lost BOTH my jobs over losing my license too.... proper left me in the sh*t if honest.... i went to court over the last three to see if i could get them reduced to two points... i had letters from both employers stating i would have my contract of employment terminated if i lost my license and also a letter from the old dear saying if i lost my jobs and couldn't pay rent i'd be evicted.... apparently, according to the courts losing jobs and/or home is "not a mitigating enough circumstance in which to reduce points" so it begs the question... just what the f*ck is?

a very wealthy friend of mine got done for wreckless driving in his first two years and the courts reduced his six pointer to 5 points... where's the justice aye?

Quite right Rob,I've insured the Transit & Touring for the same price as JUST the Touring last year, using a broker in Chippenham.

Try adrian Flux I Think they specialise in drivers with points.

That sucks.

Would you not insure yourself on say a partners car fully comp , then insure partner on e30??

Should be alot cheaper

Get on the phone. Online quotes wanted at least £2k for my M40 turd, got HIC to ring and they quoted £1300. And thats with being 21, 2 years NCB, wheels, suspension and transmission change.

Performance Direct can be worth a shout for 'non standard' driving records, too. Just make sure you phone people up and talk to them rather than wasting time with comparison sites.

I did ring up a load of insurance firms too like

Nfu
Brentacre
Lancaster
Gsi

All silly prices or can not quote at all... I'm set on selling it now and picking up a coupe in a year or so... The person who wanted it now has pulled out so i gotta get it to a stage to sell... But i have no clue what its worth...

I will be stripping the vinyl off and giving most panels a lick of paint, it's got a full breyton kit on it and will have the 17s i originally bought it with only refurbed and painted white... 12mnths MOT but no tax.

How much is sensible to put it up for?? It's a 318i touring, no sunroof, solid shell, full electric windows, full leathers, or should i just save hassle and frag it?
