318is pricing help

Hi all, my first post as I am currently looking at buying a E30!!
I'm looking at buying a E30 318iS from a guy near where I live. Its a very tidy car with 117k on the clock, in silver and the interior looks great. Its not a bad car at all and I'm really interested.
The guy is not quite sure of the value but people have told him its worth at least 2K.
Bad bits: There is a bit of rust starting to show around the rear arches, the fog light blanking plates are missing, there isnt much service history past 50k miles and I don't think its had the chain tensioner done.
I know these things are expected from a car of this age and overall its very tidy and the guy seems genuine.
I have looked online in loads of places but cant find many 318iS models to compare it with.
What do you guys think its worth?

LOL, im no expert but i watch the prices of the is !!
this one just sold for 1650 or a bit under, sold straight away, hows it compare ?
http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=200396
go to the cars for sale, and scroll through the pages looking for 318is in title, theres been a few, a really nice red one sold for 2k recently, 2k is the nicer range, 2.5 for a really nice one
one with bubbling on rear arches, missing blanking plates for fogs...so presume no fog lights ? whats the sills, jacking points, scuttle, etc like ? have you had a proper good look around the car ?
whats the paint like all over ? interior ? head lining carpets etc ?
also not much history/recent, past 50k...is a big down, which means the milage might and probably is higher than it shows, these cars would of clocked up 100k in the 1st 10 years most of the time being an is, not old man from new owners really like chromies etc
without pics etc, id say 2k is way high,it depends on them rear arches how bad they are, coupled with the not much history could be talking 800-1k , yet could be 1500k if its slight and the whole car generally is lovely ?

it sounds like a bogo spec model if the fogs are missing, does it have bbs alloys ? if so are they i4" or 15"? black headliner ? does it have a s/roof? is it electric or manual ? are the sides of the checked upholstered sport seats black or grey ?
pics of the turd will be a help along with some of the above answered.
happy to help.

Doubt very much it's worth £2000. Rusty rear arches not a good sign. I paid £500 for mine which despite it's appearance and 350,000 miles is relatively solid.

350k !!! thats superb i salute !!! mines on 192k , purchased at 179k with full history
genuine honest true milage, is much nicer than low dubious ho history milage

Thanks for the quick replies! Its very similar to the one in that link actually Polsta. That gives me a good idea pricing
I haven't had a good look underneath or under carpets yet. The paint seems pretty good and there's no dings or dents anywhere. The interior is immaculate. The arches are not too bad. There was also some bubbly paint around the wing mirror mounts too, is this common/normal?
Did the iS come with fog lights as standard? When I asked about the holes in the bumper he said the inserts had fallen out but I did wonder if there should have been fog lights there? Also I don't think it had the front splitter like the one in the link, could be wrong though.

thats the "is lip" splitter, around £70-100 to replace
fog lights were an option, as was electric sunroof etc , wo either the fog lights or blanking plates have been removed , blanking plates are cheap to buy, fogs not so cheap
what about steering wheel and gear knob ? both should be leather and tech 1 wheel
yes the corrosion on the wing mirror bases is very common and easily sorted dont worry about that
tool kit ? mint complete ? jack, triangle etc ? not important but all factors in pricing
and as magpie says..wheeels ? bbs ? 14 or 15 ? condition ? center caps ? tyre condition ? again when pricing it all comes in to it
that one above looked mint for the money, and looks to have been uner priced, but also priced to sell and sold
so if you have things like 14 bbs with not great tyres, no is splitter, no fogs, no mtech leather gear knob and tech 1 wheel, or knackered items...can all mount up for you to have to replace and effect pricing, but if say 15" bbs with nice tyres, it has the is lip, nice tech 1 wheel and gear knob, etc etc...will make a difference on value

I'll try and get some pics but from what I remember the sunroof was manual, the wheels looked like 14", cant remember the colour of the headliner but the seat bolsters were grey.

the cars leaning more towards the 1k-1200 range
owner may think its worth 2k, but manual sunroof,no fogs, 14 wheels, bubbling arches, no history after 50k , isnt worth the 2k the top end is`s are worth

Thanks Polsta, I will use all this info as ammo for when I next look at it. It is a very tidy car overall but I don't want to pay over the odds for it. I think £1500 would be the max I would pay for it.

Ended up paying £1500 for it in the end, he wouldn't let it go for any less and I really wanted it. I love driving it!
First thing I want to do is give it a really good service, and then I'll be looking for a few bits such as the fogs/inserts to fill those holes in the bumper and a front lip.
Are there many members on here from the south west? I'll be looking forward to attending some meets soon

mate i have some fog lense covers, alpine white mind, but youl be hard pushed to find some silver ones, but...just get fog lights , fog lights with the twin head lights are the business and a good safety feature for quiet country road night driving and fog obviously
new plug and all filters and fluid change, all fluids like break, pas, diff etc, coolant flush, and oil change, also give the icv and throttle cable and inlet bit a god colean with carb cleaner, will make it run sweet

I think I will try and source some fogs instead of the inserts, they seem to be much easier to get hold of. They look better too
Should have some time this weekend to give it a good service, might change the chain tensioner too. Do BMW still stock parts for these or is it best to get from GSF?
