yep, thats very true but the 3.0's are cheaper

the car isnt worth more that the value of the gear box and a possible clean shell

I was thinking the same?? 3.0 v8,, I thought that was a typo , what car were they found in, or are they ancient lumps?

e34 530 had a 3.0 v8 at some point.

is the 3.0 lump physically the same size as the 4.0? if so, you could always just use the cheapy 3 to get the conversion up and running and iron out any niggles whilst building up a 4.0 to swap in when the time is right

The more I think about it the small v8 in an e39 was a 3.5 iirc so must be an m60 out of a e34! Probably barely 200 ponies not worth it at all imho!
