It'll probably never get as bad in the UK as in Europe, but it's unlikely it'll continue as it is.

To give you an idea of how bad it's got over here, on the Spanish forum we've had people fail "MOTs" for having M Tech kits fitted to cars which originally didn't have them and even a failure for a 323i for having a factory sunroof (wasn't recorded on the spec sheet correctly when new so was deemed as a modification and as such needed an engineers report).

Enjoy fitting M52s, E36 racks and wheels of your choice while you still can....

Looking at this -

http://www.the-ace.org.uk/stricter-mot- ... -2012.html

It seems to be aimed at the 'euro look' collapsed suspension, wheels hanging out of bodywork, tinted windows, floodlight headlamp mods that you see congregating on public areas of a night time harassing local residents with their bad boy exhausts and handbrake skillz.

This is out of order though -
Currently we do not have a list of illegal engine tuning parts in this country but the EC is looking at restrictions across the board, particularly as OEM are pressing against tuning of their ECU software, maintaining that it is their property, regardless of the vehicles sale.

yep, it does doesn't it. Get your conversions done this year folks!

I'd write another paragraph about useless beaurocrats justifying their existence by dreaming up unjustified laws while snoozing off their boozy expense account lunches but I just can't be bothered.
Burn the ****ers.

Seems to be a very big sledgehammer to crack a very small 'nut' of vehicles modified so as not to meet with Construction and Use legastlation....

Surely if a modified car does not,or cannot meet existing MoT requirements then it cannot be used on the public road,it is a 'show vehicle' only.

I expect that it is too much to expect common sense to rise to the top at either Westminster or Brussells!

All new cars muct have a wash or wash wipe system if installed with HID's, as they burn cooler than normal halogen bulbs.

To clear of snow

How often does it snow hard enough and cold enough to cover your headlights? I find the muck off the road more of a problem than snow on my HID E34 lamps, takes less than a minute to pull over and wipe them off

This is a good reason to f*ck off the whole EU thing and stay independant!! Shame our manufacturing industry was f*cked over as we're now a crap nation :(

I think we all knew this would happen eventually, but I thought it would've been a good few years before it started knocking at our doors. As Malc said, sledgehammer to crack a nut as usual...

So are we saying that if an engine conversion has been done already. registered MOT'd etc then it should be ok? Or am I not going to be able to use the M50 on the road?

I'm sure it will mean cars after 2012, surely they can't say cars before this because a hell of a lot of things like laws and acts will be effected.

I bloody hope so. I'm sure there are some benefits of being part of Europe but I dont like it one bit. Trading partners yes but this whole dictatorship is balls.

Eu had very little benefits for the uk with the exception of free trade and manufacturing companies etc, apart from that the uk is filled with migrants flooding the uk because of this eu shit coming here for a better life yet there are no jobs and they suck of benefits!

These laws can't come into place, people that say well abide by the rules and you won't be affected can Fuck off!

They will come into place because our governments are out for themselves and theres a lot of people in this country who won't stand up and say "hang on a minute you can't do this bla bla bla" simply for the fact that it will affect them, people get this and that off the government and working peoples taxes and what not, thats why nothing will ever be said coushty life and everyone else ie. us will keep getting screwed up the a** no Vaseline.

Crap rules etc, surely its a contravention to our human rights, we have the right to do what we want to our cars, provided they are deemed safe to drive and no more dangerous than the original item, ie uprated engine, brakes and suspension are upgrades in line with the additional weight and power.

People telling you what you can and can't do with your car surely can be contested under the human rights act.

Regardless, my car will be used on the road whatever the outcome, if this rubbish does happen i would be happy to organise an en-mass motorway crawl demonstration, thousands of cars clogging up the motorways in demonstration. nothing anyone can do about that. Legal right to demonstrate peacefully, just drive at 50mph on the motorway in all 3 lanes and no a single law is broken. no action can be taken and there will be quite a tailback.

A tailback,,,, wow,,,,, im getting nervous already

Human rights and number plates do not go together, remember when they tried to use human rights to stop the NIP 'give yourself up or else' scam? Its not going to happen if it will stop government revenue
