i believe it was a motorsport only colour
very limited

Yes, Sebring Grey metallic was an official BMW colour, introduced specially for the E30 Motorsport Edition convertibles (information provided by BMW HQ) and is an exclusive colour for that car only.
I certainly haven't seen any other BMW with that colour officially.

Was used on big six-series of the same era.
635 Highline Motorsports an M colour.

was it not an e36 colour too? as some motorsport colours became normal e36 ones? or is it only calypso red?!
or am i thinking for Granite grey

it was'nt used on 635 m/sports , i had one in nogaro silver they came in macau blue & misano red too that was the only 3 colours, sebring was also on e34 M5's as i went to see one b4 i got my cecotto
