Hi everyone

Back after selling my tech 2 about 3 years ago. I have been offered 2 e30s from someone I know and am after some advice on what I should do. There is a 1986 325i with tech 1 bodykit on. Im not sure if it is a genuine sport and it has been crashed and has front end damage. It is not in best condition as been sitting in feild with no wheels for about 5 years. I have also been offered a 1989 320i in the same colour, reasonable condition but the clutch has gone.

My plan was to use the shell of the 320 and use the 325 engine etc and tech 1 kit and build up the best car. I know the 320 is the face lift model, are any panels different to the tech 1 or will the tech 1 kit go straight on?

Was planning on respraying whole car inside and out, decent suspension and split rim BBS wheels.

What do you think?

if you have the means to do a full inside and out re spray and resto, maybe bide your time and wait for a genuine sport to save to make it really worthwhile to have a super end result for all your time and effort, they pop up on here from time to time in savable condition with all the bits, for around £900 , but see on the logbook of the 325 it will state sport , if its genuine

have a look at the photo gallery section, adamas alpine (and other cars to get an idea) -he picked that up for under a grand a nice road going 325, maybe wiser to get something like that plus a tech 1 kit , to then put on and spray the outside of a nicer car, rather than one thats been in a field for 5 years maybe lots of hidden rot, unless of course a genuine sport thats been in a field is much more worth saving

I bought a 325i sport tech1 four years ago and i only paid 300 for it. Some £3000 later and its still no where near although it is on the road.

It'll quite often say sport even if it isn't genuine..

Tech 1 rear bumper/valance on a facelift is the problemed area. It can be done but you need to cut out and weld up the rear boot compartments as they extend down further than the kit covers, you also need to get rubber corner covers from a convertible's rear chrome bumper.

Front bumper & valance will fit if you use the pre facelift front panel (bolt on) and the side skirts will fit.

Last year I was going to fit tech 1 to my tourer and didn't in the end due to the amount of hassle on the back end.

Cheap sports WILL have rot under the bodykit almost guaranteed and will end up costing you more than buying a minter, if your not bothered about the "sport" tag then you'd be better off finding a clean shell and building up a car to your spec.

Ok thanks for advice. I will have to have a look and see if the tech 1 is genuine as it has had kit on since bought from dealer and has all the tech 1 stickers etc. To find this, I will get plate and check with an insurance company?
