E30 Zone

I am in need of new brakes. The car currently has some drilled discs and carbotech pads i think but i am getting a lot of heat and brake fade. The discs are showing blueing. What brakes would you recommend? The car is a 325 touring it is not an everyday car but is used around town so dont want pads that don't work when cold. But is usedas a fast road car and will be doing a few track days this year so want something to stand up to that abuse. Any recommendations appreciated. Cheers.

I haven't used them myself yet but having read up on various threads, my next set of pads will be EBC Yellows, probably on standard discs because they're so cheap to replace that I don't mind doing it often.

Have a look through the racing section if you're after the very best.

just been having a read through some info on ebc brakes. i like the sound of the yellow stuff pads. has anyone used these or the redstuff. what do you think of them? cold breaking, brake fade and dust?

well serviced calipers with dealer discs and pads are well up to the job for fast road use,

I've always heard fairly uncomplimentary reports regarding EBC Green Stuffs, however the Yellows appear to be thought of as much better. Quite aggressive on the discs though iirc.

As E30 Topless says, proper well serviced brake system - new fluid (maybe 5.1 upgrade), decent OEM discs and pads (ATE etc) should be sufficient for (enthusiastic) road use.

But then again, I drive fairly slowly

I've used bog standard Jurid pads up to now, they do work well but I have faded them on occasions.

What difference does dot 5.1 fluid make. What is standard? Id not thought about the pads being harsh on discs but dont mind replacing them a little more frequently. When you say you have not had good results with ebc what were you not happy aboutwith them. I dont really want to put standard discs and pads on as i used to overheat them on my old 318 tourer fairly regularly.

I use the yellow stuff, They are rubbish when cold. Great on track but terrible if your comming off the motorway. The oem stuff is cheap from sytners at the moment and your best bet for evrey day use.

gsf sell brembo discs, they were as good as any aftermarket, also i used oem pads

how bad are they when cold. how much does it take to get enough heat in them to start working alright. would redstuff be a better compromise?

Have you had the brakes suffer as a result of the heat? Either boiled fluid (gives you a soft pedal, often goes to the floor), or pad-fade (where the pedal stays hard but there's no brakes/deceleration)?

If you are planning trackdays / real brake abuse then the ideal setup for the job is a proper upgrade (budget depending etc), like our WMS kits: http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... 9&start=24

Redstuff are a "very fast road/trackday" pad and are a very good (and popular) all-rounder from that point of view.
