what sort of welder do i need to weld a steering uj properly? :D

you would need a tig welder or a mig thats been set up to weld alloy, tig is by far a the better option.

Niel, i wouldn't even bother mate!

I took mine to a metal shop and asked them to take the guibo off and weld it as a solid linkage and they refused as its part of the steering and an obvious hazard! Its cast alloy and can be tigged but if you value your life spend about £60 odd with danthe and buy yourself a "danthe solid steering linkage" mate 8)

yea i now think its my mounts think they move a tad to much! bit like magpies did! not sure what mounts to go for now! :?

its e28 m5 ones but they look the same make as magpies were and think they are a tad shit :mad: got them from the us off ebay!!

Aw right, yeah I read about his problem with them, very strange! Must be made with inferior rubber tbh!!

I used e28 m5 ones on mine and put like 5000 miles on them with no issues what so ever. Got mine from euro parts, the OEM part number matched that of sytner bmw. Go get some mate :)

I`m a welder by trade and have every confidence in my tig or mig welding but as for welding a cast item that takes some serious strain,i wouldnt trust it.
The weld itself would probably be ok but the metal either side of the weld may not!
I value my and my kids life more than saving a night out`s worth of money.
