One for the insurance guru's

Its that time of year to go and get quotes for the E30- but need advice.

Over the past year I've retrofitted loads of OEM optional extras to the car.

What do I need to declare to the prospective insurer.

The car was a poverty spec 316i. The engine and drivetrain remain unchanged, however what, of the following, would either be noticed from the original 'factory records' or make a quote higher:

15" BBS from steels and hubcaps
Leather comfort heated seats
OBC
Rear blind
Front fogs
Heck spoiler
Maplight mirror
Headlamp W/Wipe
Heated washer jets
Tech 1 steering wheel
Electric rear windows
Electric aerial

I'm not trying to frig the result, I just want to be sure I'm declaring stuff that wont invalidate the policy IF I have the misfortune to claim...

My understanding mate is that if it doesn't alter performance then you're okay and those shouldn't bump the premium.

Stuuf like springs & dampers, chips etc... are what they are more fussed about.

Due to the number of factory upgrades you have fitted, it might be prudent to get an 'agreed value' on the car.

Any optional extras need to be declared according to mrs vendetta and she works for aa insurance hope that helps

AA insurance is joke, the whole SAGA group is joke

The only thing you have to do is get an agreed value, and a proper valuationnon the car. All of what you have fitted are factory options so nothing in theory to declare apart form it's a high spec car which will be reflected in the valuation

They are modifications to the original spec so need to be declared. You need to listen to the questions the insurer is asking you, as you have clear knowledge of what you have fitted I would recommend you disclose these.

Again, you are probably better off with a specialist broker for this as the price comparison sites will see them as "mods" and quote silly prices back.

An agreed value policy may well be wise to avoid the grief to trying to get correctly paid out, should the worst happen.

So the likes of Lancaster, Sky Insurance, Keith Michaels, Adrian Flux etc are going to be more suitable for your needs

On another matter I'm quite impressed I managed to come in under the agreed 3000 miles per annum too...

thing is as thats all cost £££,. £100 obc, £70 blind shelf, £60 map mirror...etc, ask yourself if you want all that insured if the car gets stolen or just to recieve back poverty spec book value, hence the agreed valuation

also companies like lancaster, pete best classic policies..its cheap enough anyway so get it all noted and agreed

those c@nts are the third party insurance company who hit my Sport.
this happened pretty much outside their premises.
there are being awkward about it, not admitting it is there fault, and failed to respond to my insurance company's request for further information why it is not their fault.
PS
agaes assessor was a real pr@ck as well.

problem with insurance companies..........I think your modifications are fine. They were all options on your BMW E30 when it was new I think.
But insurance companies will do anything to take your money but as soon as you claim they get awkward about it.
And even the tiniest modification they will probably do anything to raise the insurance premiums.
Though all my cars are standard in the past.

Insurance is bizarre, full stop. The brokers I use bumped my NCB up to six years from one year (I've held my licence for just over two years :mad: ) and dropped my price if I became a named driver on my partners Transit.

Go figure :roll:

agree it is bizzare, had my licence just over 2 years, and just insured my IS for £230 odd with pete best fully comp with uk and euro break down cover,0 excess 0 screen excess , also because i own and drive another car- i bought a discovery in dember after getting £800+ quotes- but lancaster insured me for £200 for a year fully comp landy specialist policy, because i owned and insured another car :mad: , so £430 odd for both for a year, when if i had just got either off them insured for a "normal" car policy, would of been over £1200 the pair :)

i like replying "230 fully comp with uk and euro breakdown cover,on classic car insurance" when people ask "how much was that to insure" :D

Arnt you lucky I'm 21 with 3 yrs NCB with a 325i sport and i struggle to pay less than a grand unfortunately I don't qualify for most of classic insurers.

which brokers do you use?
are they any good?
from a well known company?

man I was 21 i was still driving my first car a Seat Ibiza 1.0. Insurance on a BMW was expensive. However, i learnt good things with that car.
