Hello folks!
I am new member in here. I was living in Ireland and now moved to UK. I brought my e30 with me. It is still on Irish plates with Irish registration. I wanted to registrate my e30 in UK, but got some problems. DVLA asked me to get MOT and insurance. I passed MOT without any problems. But I was in 2 insurance companies and they can't insure my foreign car in UK. Does someone know what I can do now?
Cheers,
Regards.

Artyom.

yep, a friend improted a vw golf from germany. insure it on the vin, get it mot'd and taxed, get it registered then let your insurers know the reg number when you get it through.

I had this problem with my French regestered touring. As I could not produce the French equivilant of a V5c,I had to obtain an MoT,that was a mission on it's own,and insurance before DVLA would issue a reg number and tax it.Adrian Flux was the only company that I could find who would issue a cover note with a VIN number.

They insisted on a fresh policy with no NCB allowed, and a premium north of £750....I cancelled immediately I had dealt with the DVLA,and recovered about £600 of my premium, went to my usual place and transfered cover from another car,for a nominal(ish) cost!

Not to sure about who insures the VIN numbers i think alot of big insurers will. I know admiral do cause i spoke to a guy on the phone about it just recently, you'll need cert of export, insurance (on the VIN), tax, mot and you need a customs and excise VAT receipt to show that you've paid the necessary tax on import.

Also if the vehicle is 10 years old or less (i think) you'll need a type approval letter/cert aswell to show that it complies with emissions an so on.

Not 100% about all that but i think thats it. Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong.
