Mudflaps - are they worth having

OK - so I know this is not a very interesting topic however - About 6 months ago I bought a 318is with the remains of the original BMW mudflaps. I duly went out and bought a nice new set from the stealer. On removing what was left of the old mud flaps there is a lot of mud a stuff trapped between them and the bodywork. So - are they worth replacing or are they just going to encourage rust to form.

imo they are not worth having they trap mud as you found out and make the car rust

Hmmm i have them on my car... maybe i should look at them to make sure they are not causing any rust. I say leave them off, because in the UK rust is a issue so anything to make ur e30 last longer is cool.

They are fine if you are meticulas about keeping everything uber clean but IMO they are just grit/rust traps.
Ripped my front left one off when driving round a field and then the right rear when i had car 3-up and carrying an engine so decided to take them off, found quite bad rust behind the other front
I did like how they looked tho

i cant decide.... dont look quite right... but stops mud sprayin up the sides, important when live in a flat (no tap for hosepipe on street parking) and nearest jetwash is 8 miles away

Rust traps.. don't have em on the car unless you are willing to take them off every week to clean the crap out from behind them.
