Hi all, I'm new here so thought I would drop you a line. I'm sure if I look hard enough I would find the answer to my next question(s) but I'll ask anyway. Am just off to view my first E30, a 325 touring, so what should I look for? There seem to be plenty on the road still and you rarely see a rusty one but I'm sure there they must have their weak points.
Cheers in advance.

The tailgate is a notorious place for tourers to rust so check this out.
There are a lot more experienced people on this forum that can offer advice but just do all the usual things, check the history, make sure everything works, dont look at it at night or in the rain, drive it dont get driven, check for leaks, engine and exhaust.
Basically you want to buy the best you can afford. dont buy the first you see look at a few. I bough the first I saw in the flesh but I was lucky and got a minter with 66k on the clock and full history.

Buy on bodywork (rust) first, condition of trim etc. next, and engine last.
Tailgate does rust around the bottom of the glass (pushes the plastic strip out) and behind the plastic around the number plate area, but I've never seen one beyond repair. Can usually get away without a respray as well.
Most important area for rust is the rear wheel arches, both on the inside and out. It's unusual to find an E30 without at least one small hole under the right hand arch.
Second most important area is around a large rubber grommet at the front of the glovebox / under the brake servo, where all the wiring from the fusebox goes into the car. Very difficult to inspect, and very hard to repair because of lack of accessability.
Bottom rear of front wings rust, but these are bolt on, so no great problem to replace.
Try to get your hand under the carpets, front and rear. There are several places that small rust holes commonly appear that soak the carpets, but they are all usually easy to sort, except the grommet one mentioned above.
Congratulations on your first E30 being the best one.
