Rear touring springs

Had a look at the rear suspension this evening and discovered these. Any ideas what the rubber bands are mounted on the springs? Same on both sides btw. Any idea if these shocks are any good?

Think they are spring assisters for towing a caravan and such like?

The car sits pretty low - prob too low for me but no expert on the type of lowering kit!

Ahh it does have a tow bar but I aint a gypsy regardless of what anyone on here says so I guess they can be taken off without reason to be concerned?

Dampers are Monroe.
A good Monroe is better than a totally clapped Boge, but it's not the kind of thing I'd want on an E30.
IIRC, Monroe are owned by Ford, which should answer your question.

Aren't they there not to make the springs smack together completely when you hit a big bump ?
