I reckon if you are ridiculously lucky, your budget might buy you a quarter-decent cab. Your wheel / suspension budget will need to be a couple of times your buying budget to get what you want though.
A good roof is a good start with a cabby

^^ Sometimes. Sometimes a steal comes along if you scour the ads daily for 6-12 months.
But yeah, can't say I understand planning to spend more on your wheels than your car.

£900 will get you rotten scrap. There is a few bargains left but they only turn up when your not looking for them. Double your budget and you MIGHT find something worth buying. 325 cab for -1k isn't going to be worth the heartache

In my opinion, you'll need at least a grand for your wheels, and more than that for a cabby worthy of wearing them

£900 cabby = £600 bill for new roof + £££s for a roof motor if it needs it, which it might well + easily £1000+ of 'bits and pieces' to do.
£3000 cabby = pop the roof down and go for a spin.
Are the wheels 5 x 120 or E30 4 x 100? If they're 5 x 120 you should sell them to me and invest the proceeds into a better car..

I'm paying £500 + for 6 cylinder cabs to break. Don't buy a £900 six cylinder cab unless you have another £900 at least to spend on it.
£1200 might get you a half decent 318i cab.

Spend it on the E30 you have at the moment!
Could go quite far to making it run and look sweet as a nut!

Or an M50 conversion!

I agree, best time of year to buy a cab is winter / early spring. All priced to sell. Look for the usual stuff.
If the suspension you have is for a 4 door or coupe it will not have the same ride height on a cab. They're a tad heavier.

I remember when i was looking to buy a cab i saw a white 325i it was cheap the roof well it looked like a fishing net was in a poor condition.Started the cab which it did but one of the red warning light's stayed on all the time it was running, had no service history more than ten owner's i'm so glad i didn't buy it.

i would sell the wheels but ive saved long and hard to buy them nd have em refurbed so they wont be going anywhere soon he he
a freind has a gplate 320i zinnober coupe with no tax but 1 month mot he may consider letting me have for 500,it has had a rebuilt engine ,lsd and a few goodies to go,runs and drives really nice ,just needs a new driver door and window and theres a huge crack i the windscree n so with a few quid thrown at it and lower it on my wheels i think i may be onto a winner
