Extra security for cabs.

following on from the recent number of cab thefts thread,Iv fitted a wireless pir sensor in my cab which connects to my house alarm,so if any one breaks in to my car my house alarm goes off,its cheap for a sensor and just adds a little extra security, where somtimes u don't hear yr car alarm.
It can be connected to to any house alarm and works up to a thirty metre range!

These are pretty good, you can also have them work the other way so if your car is in a garage and the garage gets broken into your car alarm goes off before they get near it.
No extra fobs needed just code it to your alarm remote fob 8)

I didn't know that dan,that's a good idea!
I park my car outside my house(no garage :()so I have connected a big fook off 1500 watt flood light to also come on when the alarm activates,it lights up the whole road :D

What happens if it's broken into when your away from home?

I'd assume that your wireless PIR would be out of range and therefore, nothing!
Or more likely, just the alarm in the car.

Yes it will only work at home,iv done this because somtimes I can't even get outside my house to park,so have to park two or three cars down out of sight of my house,

Well the DIY tracker has been mentioned before, an old mobile phone hidden away somewhere in the car (connected to a charger) along with a subscription to a website that can track a mobile for a small fee. If the car goes missing you log on to the website and it will track the car for you.
This is very cheap to set up, but the accuracy of GSM tracking is a bit poor, especially in rural areas.

One way to improve this would be to use something like an android phone with GPS and a google latitude account, this would be more expensive to buy in the first place but much more accurate tracking with GPS. Also no ongoing tracking fees, just the cost of the phones data use, probably less than £10 a month on pay as you go.

Tracking sites include -
http://www.traceamobile.co.uk/
http://www.mobilelocate.co.uk/

But how would you keep the phone charged without running down the car battery too much?

The current drawn by the phone charger should be pretty low.

I expect it would probably take a few days to drain the battery.

If the car is in regular use it shouldnt be an issue.

I assume the wirless PIR can only hook up to a wirless house alarm system, there isn't a way to install on a wired system?

your house alarm does not need to be wireless.
All you need is a wireless pir which compromises of transmitter and a receiver, the receiver part just connects into yr normal zone connections within your home alarm panel and your pir sensor is the transmitter, just set your house alarm as normal(ommiting any zones that u don't want to set,eg upstairs sensors at night.then your car is armed.

The wireless sensors are generally used for sheds at the bottom of big gardens etc.where cables couldn't be used.
