hi all, so i got my new baby sorted and was thinking of ditching trhe 17" alpines for something 18". dont really like the look of stretched on borbets and everyone else seems to be running bbs', So where does that leave me?
i know the pcd is 4x100 but whats the offset on a standard wheel?
i have seen a nice of 18" 5 spokes on ebay but i can't bring myself to show them on here for fear of violent reprisals lol i can already hear the furore lol, heres a piccy, please feel free to be honest, i already know myself i shouldnt buy them as they just scream drug dealer but i kinda like em

Not for me I'm afraid, but the world would be boring indeed if we all shared the same taste :D
Seriously though 18"?!!? Gonna ride like crap and look comedy :(

Original 15" E30 wheel is 4 x100 pcd with ET24. 18's will ruin the way the car drives but as you've already got 17" Alpina reps you may not notice LOL 16" are the best for handling combined with looks.

215/35/18 tyres are nearly identical in rolling radius to the standard E30 wheel so will fit without rubbing etc and the speedo will read nearly spot on - out by 0.06mph at 30mph

At the end of the day it's your car and if you like those wheels then fit em :D

Nooooo jamie dont do it!!! lol ok you don't like the alpina rep wheel but if you do want a change pick something else as iv seen that wheel on e30's and it looks sh#t, im sure theres someone on here who can show you what your car would look like with any wheel you choose before you buy

lol i kinda thought they'd get that reaction and i was a bit dubious about them to be honest, and thanks for the tip on the 18'S i'll probably stick with 17's of a less drug dealer persuasion then :)

i would like to know how fitting 18 inch wheels but keeping the same rolling diameter will adversel;y affect the handling.... i love the way many repeat this tired old saying that 16 are the biggest for an E30...so come on lets hear the science behind your statements.....

It's your car mate, do what makes you happy :D

I agree with the info on the 18" though, they will turn your E30 handling to crap unless you have money to burn on a proper set up, 16" will look to small with your kit, stick to 17" :thumb:

Suspension quality does also play a major part. Drop a car on lowered springs and whack some 17" will ride shite. 17" on some quality coilovers will ride far better :D

thanks again all for the comments, i secretly knew they were a tad tacky for the E30 i think i just needed to hear it. it has been lowered on bilstein shocks and avo springs and the ride quality is lovely, its comfier than my 2003 leon cupra r!!!
i think i will stick to the 17's tho as the do fill the arches well with out looking too big.
maybe best just left alone as the alpines do really suit it, maybe just some spacers to push em out a tad instead :)

Hi fella i agreed with some of the comments but there are some rims that just don't suit the e30.i've had 17's on my car for a while and yes they fill out the arch well, look really nice.
If you still want to change your rims i would go on some of the other e30 sites to see what other wheels are out there.
But at the end of the day it's your car, i'm sure what ever you do it will be the right choice for yourself

Irrespective of size, I can't picture those rims ever suiting an E30's styling.

My opinion is the 16" is the biggest you should go on an E30 anything larger completely ruins the ride esp on a cab,
not sure about Handling ? but for me I like them to drive nicely :D

Totally agree Steve.

How can having no side wall not affect comfort on a car?

35 profile tyres are fooking harsh to drive on! Suprised it needs expalaining actually

I was just pointing out that the standard reply is " you cannot fit big rims on an e30, it will not handle / ride right". Do the people writing this actually know this or
Are just repeating what was written before, why would a well set up car not work on 18s, and as for the 16 myth - did the touring m3 not run 17s?

sorry to dig up an old thread but i didnt want to start another one, one thing that confuzzles me is offset, now i know E30's are meant to run 24mm offset and i know that this is the measurement between the centre line and the mating surface.
so correct me if im wrong but if the offset f a wheel was for instance 35mm would that mean it would sit 11mm deeper inside the wheel arch?
