Exhaust Tone Contest

Posted: Sun Oct 02, 2005 6:21 pm
by StefanReindl
Had this idea a while back, hope it actually works. :thumb:

If you are interested in entering the contest, post a link to a soundclip of your exhaust tone. The entry must be longer than 10 seconds and can be no longer than 1 minute. It must be of your car!

Depending on the number of entries, there will be a series of public polls that will determine the winner. Your link will be included in the first post.

No entries will be accepted past the 8th (Saturday) of this month.

Cheers,
Stefan

Edit: You will not be penalized for sound quality.

an early entry for me but not what I intend to rely on as it is from a drag race with an E36 328, just done on digicam and stood quite a distance back with other noise, so pretty crap from an exhaust note point of view

I think I have a very good chance of winning with the Alpina C2.

Will try and get a sound file made.

It's my old 2 litre GT6 engine. Dinky little inlet-over-exhaust inline 6. Just shows what these engines can sound like :)

Shame I just saw this post. My 325 had a 2 inch hole between the back of the centre silencer and the pipes. It was loud enough to make the floorpan vibrate and sounded :D, especially above 3500rpm. On the over run you could hear it poping and backfiring.

Replaced in on friday before the old bill asked me to do it

I am going to enter my 323i in this, hopefully I can get a recording this afternoon. It has a 2 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust, straight through mufflers and a 6 branch. BUT I just heard it driving at lower rpm and it sounds kind of crap, but typical for the inline 6s I hear when I go racing. They seem to make a not so nice loud bellowy type noise that I don't like. I think it sounds better higher up (gets kind of raspier) so I'll make sure I get that too.

Im sure I will get banned for this but it had to be done
- XR3i standard exhaust except home made 3" tail pipe.
Took the vid when it was dark 'cause it was flaming a bit on overrun, but it didnt do it this time :(

Not at all - its running better than ever. Passed the MOT fine (which surprised the tester after he heard it popping) and isnt using fuel like its going out of fashion.

After a good service we have got it running spot on (as well as it can - its a Ford  ), but it still pops really well on overrun - its great :D
