E30 Zone

Ok now the snow and rain and salt spray is here, I'm thinking its about time to look into a half decent car cover for my e30 Tourer, which I have to park on-street.

Does anyone know of a good cover that fits and protects this model well, not for silly money?

i paid £55 for a halfords 100% waterproof cover and under 2ft of snow my car is bone dry

you will need the large one for a touring so price may be a fiver more .

Dont buy one from argos. I got their 'deluxe' one and if its deluxe i'd hate to see the cheaper one!

I was thinking of getting a car cover too but which one is the ideal to get? Want a waterproof, non scratching car cover.

Not always been sure of covers that are available from the high streets, I found a stormforce car cover which sounds like the ultimate car cover see the review below...

Is it worth spending the extra cash on the stormforce or can the Halfords one do the same in terms of keeping the car moisture free (which is important as I don't want my car to start rusting)?

Might be worth a try its only £55 but most people have told me...

"The only car covers I've seen to work are the Carcoon ones, which are indoors anyway and aimed at the drivers of classic cars etc. I reckon even the best outdoor car cover suffers from an inherently flawed design concept. Dirt, grit and moisture WILL get trapped between the cover and the car throughout a British winter, regardless of how clean the car and cover may initially be.

All the outdoor covers I've seen trap moisture, causing increased corrosion, and scuff and dull the paint (especially on corners/edges, or in a decent breeze). I've seen one where the edge of the wing had been worn right down to bare metal over winter, due to the cover flapping and abrading against the surface

A far better policy, in my opinion, would be to treat all rust and underseal the car, fix any leaks, use a durable wax or sealant for the paint, and leave it outside. If the car is in use, rinse off the salt as often as you can."

It does the job very well, never had an issue with moisture.

Great a fellow member with the same cover that I was after.

Could you be kind enough to report back on the below?

Is your car kept outside and if so...

Does it keep it bone dry or just a little damp?

Any problems with it scratching the paintwork?

Does it trap any condensation/moisture?

How is protection from say snow?

How is the fitment of the cover? My car is a E30 Mtec II sport so which which size cover will be best fit for my car?

Helps keep the car dust free.

The Stormforce one is used on my M3, it's a bit tight on the M3 but fits great on my tech 2 sport.

Always been bone dry when I remove the cover, never any moisture.

Never noticed any scratched paintwork, my sport got painted last year and it's scratch free.

Never used the cover in snow so no comment I'm afraid.

The M3 is parked in my cousins heated garage at the minute, it's wearing the Stormforce indoors too.

Thanks for the feedback mate and after chatting to a few buddies I will be ordering the E30 M3 fitment cover as that will fit my Tech II sport perfectly.

It comes in a bag all folded up well, for the life of me I can't fold it back up to store it

I used to use Autostorm Classic when I had my 1975 Alfa GT1600J, which was otherwise exposed to the elements and it did a good job of keeping the elements out and was breathable enough to let pretty much any condensation evaporate. Just that was for a coupe shape car and I've not seen any that fit well onto BMW Touring shape.

Stormforce sounds like the ultimate car cover and has had great review from its users

mine was free .........found it lyin on the floor next to a rover so accidently landed on back of my truck oooooooppppppssssss hahahahaha

Some of these are loads of money they must be gold plated

If the cover is for outside, you need to make sure you lash it down properly. I've had loads of problems with car covers ending up in trees etc.I've had wheels with tyres on the bonnet and boot and it's still blown away.

I use the Machine Mart silver one, recommended as a budget buy.

And if you are keeping it outside, sling a tarp over it also.

halfords is defo the way forwards for car covers ive just bought one because my argos 1 glued itself to my cav and ruined its self and my paint

Great!! We should do a write up and review of these covers so anyone in the market could get a idea of how good or bad they are.
