Well lads.....
Finally picked up my mint M Tech 1 Sport yesterday.....from Mason!
What a top lad he is.....and the car is awesome!!
Anybody who has seen this car in the flesh will understand how tidy it is....its a real credit.....and it doesnt half shift......pulls alot stronger than the M Tech 2 I once had......probably sumet to do with the 6 branch manifold and full powerflow exhaust system....even if its a tad too loud
Anyways im a happy bunny oncemore.......good to be back biys and girls

Stu
the phase one cars make more power than phase 2.
but on the sports the gearing is longer on the phase 1's. (3,64 compared to 3.91)
whack on a 3.91 lsd diff (as fitted to phase 2 sports) and it will destroy a phase 2 sport
the beauty of this is that its a "free" performance upgrade.
cos u can sell on your original 3.64 lsd for same sorta money as it will cost to buy a 3.91.
Pretty easy to change as well.
anyways m8 just to reiterate, congrats on buying the car its gotta be one of the best tech 1 sports out there

Well done mate, asbsolute minter of a car! Looks lush.

Noooooooo! Don't fit a 3.91. It won't go much better but it'll rev like buggery and use a load more fuel/nerves.
One of the best mods I ever did to my Touring was to replace the 3.91 with a 3.64. Much nicer top end and on the Sport, the overall wheel/tyre diameter - even with 15 inch rims - is smaller than the 14 inch rim with 195/65's.
Just leave it well alone, they go well enough.

,Just leave it well alone, they go well enough.

ive personally owned 6 x 325i's
4 of them with 3,64 diffs and 2 with 3.91's
plus ive driven a fair few others
the 3.91 cars r noticeably more lively.
mpg is a little worse, but the gains outweigh the losses.
top end is unchanged as a 325i will not rev out in top with either diff.
but u will get to that top end figure quicker with a 3.91
even with 15 inch rims - is smaller than the 14 inch rim with 195/65's.
theres a 0.4 % difference
hardly earth shattering is it
at the end of the day its up to stu.
its a cheap (just time really) mod and it will give gains.
most performance increaes will involve a car using more fuel anywyas remember.
plus its something bmw did themselves to the phase 2 sports and to the tourings so it cant be very wrong can it ?
itd be better if ppl didnt give incorrect or misleading advice.

Mine has a tech1 bottom end on the end and the 3.91 diff and although it doesnt do much in each gear it flys through them. Far more fun than a higher geared diff.

my 3.91 pisses me off on the mway.......
3.73/3.64 is the way forward!

I'm half regretting swapping my 4.10 for a 3.91, as there aren't any motorways in my county then there aint much chance of me being on one, acceleration was bliss!

To be honest with you lads....
Im gona leave the diff well alone.....the car pulls like an absolute train as it is so I doubt Id notice the difference anyhow......
Its set up well.....and im well happy with it.....next mod I think is a big bore throttle body...worth it do ya think?

with a s3.91 you will notice the difference, but the 3.64 is just as good once you get going

. imo. mine goes really well, cant fault it, and am luvin it to bits

dont get me wrong, theres nothing wrong with a 3.64 i had one on my tech one sport, just that with a 3,91 there shud be a real noticeable difference in acceleration.

I only weigh 13 stone and I don't have a burger van to pull, so a 3.64 suits me fine.
It'd be better if you stopped talking bullshit in txt spk as well.
Paid for your ex written off clocked M535i yet?

everything ive said is correct, unlike ur bullshit.
at the end of the day the diff thing comes down to personal opinion as to what u prefer. There is however no denying that a 3.91 on a tech 1 sport will make it noticeably quicker at the expense of a little extra fuel and cruising noise.
as for the text speak, well as i only tend to use 2 or 3 words of it if u dont like it then dont bother replying theres a good little keyboard bandit
and the other matters well im not even gonna bother replying, but it might be best if u actually got ur facts straight.
have a nice day - or not.
