It's got more to do with the number and value of claims in a given postcode rather than how nice it is?

Generally pikeys do not rob themselves, they go to the nearest better off area which is sadly why i'm in an F category!

Maybe the only crime in some of these areas is insurance fraud

so cos I live in a little village with only 3 lanes to reach doesn't get through traffic. we are on a private area I am still E.

When I was a student (moving house every year) I moved from one postcode to another and had to pay an increase in premium due to the "higher risk post code" that I'd moved to. OK.

The following year I moved back to the same post code as before and guess what ? An additional premium for it being a higher risk post code !

When I challenged this charge the broker claimed that it was a mistake and that the extra charge for the second move was an admin fee. I told him that no admin fee had been charged the previous year (only the risk change) and that I would like to see their risk levels pricing policy and the administration charges in writing before I made any further payments.

I never received a reply and never paid the increase either.

Draw your own conclusions.

I used to live in an 'a' area and the only crime that ever went on was pikeys stealing quad bikes from farms.

You may live in a wealthy post code but if the county is subject to high claims then this will have an impact.

I'm sure there's parts of Manchester with multimillion pound houses but your still going to be close to some scummers.

a bit strange how the entire AB poscode is an "a" rating. there's plenty of area's in AB10,16,24 that i wouldn't leave a car. the whole postcode can't be good.

That's interesting but insurance still makes no sense, I recently moved from an 'E' rated area where I had to park my car in the street to a 'C' rated area where it's now kept in a garage and my premium still went up. I cannot put into words how much I despise insurance companies.

I think 'refer' is their code for 'cher-ching'.

I live in a B according to this list. I'm not sure it's an absolute, but it's probably a reasonable guide. Best to remember your occupation can make a huge difference too, if you have the opportunity to choose your own job title, as often happens in smaller companies, it's worth considering what would make you sound like a lower risk. I don't think you'll get away with calling yourself a teacher if you're really a stunt-man though.

Insurance company tried the 'you've moved into a higher risk postcode' when I moved in feb. When I said that was pretty unlikely, they just said, 'alright, it's an admin fee, you still have to pay it or we'll void the policy'. Basically they have you by the balls in this situation and can charge what they like, it's best not to change any details mid-term in my experience if you can possibly avoid it - so often best to wait until your insurance is running out before you change cars, basically.
