E30 Zone

What's best for a switchable sports box when you stop at the lights?

Brakes on in D

or

Straight into N?

I always have left autos in D when stopped at lights etc

On the occasions I drove an auto, I always slipped it into N.

Auto's are for lazy people so I doubt it'll do any harm... they can't expect someone to buy an auto and have to keep putting the handbrake on and into N

(This was said in jest - I drive a switchable auto (at the moment))

I had read somewhere previously that it's bad for the box to let it idle in N but surely it can't be good for the engine to be working against the brakes?

I've never put an auto E30 into Neutral at lights. If I'm in a queue of traffic for a while I'll put it into Neutral. Never had any probs.

If I ever to get bored of keeping my foot on the brake at lights I usually stick it back in park.

I believe autos don't like being revved up when in N

Leave it in D. Idling in N or P on older 4HP22's doesn't do the forward clutch pack much good and revving is an absolute no-no.

Any damage from running it at 5500 rpm whilst in P (and warmed up) ?

In D, left foot on the brake, right foot on the throttle giving it a bit of gas whilst eagerly waiting for the amber light
