E30 Zone

i was thinking maybe i could sell my sport and then get 2 cars another 1 for me say an is and a cheep cab for my daughter so when she passes her test she wont be driving a saxo or some other peice of shit and she does wont a e30
am i being relistic or am i dreaming

Nice thought, but i think your dreaming. A cab of any variety for a first car! Nice but the insurance is gonna be astronominal!

no get 1 now and work on it so when she does its there for her a 318i should be ok or a 318 2 door but finding 1 cheep now as fookin hard even with no tax or mot they wont shed loads for a 20y old car

It's the summer thing! Give it another 2 to 3 months when the wether gets a bit nastier and they will come down in price. In the meantime might be worth making a few calls to Insurance Companies (I'd start with Sky Insurance on here as they trounced my previous quotes) so you at least know if it's realistic or not

Sky Insurance will be no good for your daughter. They want two years of driving experience.

I can't see one decent Sport making enough to get a mint iS that you'll be happy with. Could also be hard going from 6pot to 4...... (even if the iS is really better) and a good E30 that won't leave your daughter down.


I say hold back on the pocket money and just get her a nice cab and keep your own. If she makes a fuss, just show her a picture of a nice cab and a piece of shit saxo/punto/any other scrap first car

I would guess that any first car will be tough on insurance,be interesting to see how a cabbie stacks against the more usual choices.
I have only one restriction on my insurance,between 10pm and 6 am,when the cabbie is at home it MUST be in the garage to retain the malicious damage clause!

Insurance for the cabby will cost almost as much as the cabby itself

You're mad if you think she'll get insurance on a cab as her first car.
Everybody has to have a dog turd for their first car. Its the law.
Picture the situation:

You get a cab for her, spend months getting it straight, give it to beaming and very grateful daughter after passing her test.
Then you bend over and lube up to pay the insurance.
3 weeks later she wraps it up on wet roundabout, or pulls out in front of someone, or dings it in a car park, or scrapes it down a wall.

Without wanting to sound harsh, these are all very realistic situations that all too many new drivers find themselves in.
Its sad, but it may have to be French for a while......

By all means buy her a cab, just wait until shes got a bit of experience under her belt. It'll be far less painful for both of you i'm sure.

Exactly what I was thinking. Surely you want something small and SAFE not rwd and with no roof.
I won't let my wife drive rear wheel drive. Slow in fast out isn't something women on the hole seem to be able to grasp.

Quite possibly, but no doubt they drove them dreadfully and got their fast / slow stuff terribly mixed up

But yeah, I don't recall passing an E30 convertible upside down in a ditch with the wheels spinning in the air too often back in the day...

It goes for alot of my mates too to be honest. Most people are too used to driving euro sh1t boxes where mid corner foot down antics only result in understeer. This seems to be normal driving for alot of people I have been in cars with (my wife included) and has resulted in me writing off more than 1 rwd car in my youth.

Well, whilst this WAS the case, sadly Mr Beemerbird took it for what only can be described as a 'terminal' drive the day before I got my Touring.

Two engine mounts sheared off . . . Resulting in the engine dropping onto the subframe and partially shearing that, too . .

Insurance wont be too bad, at 18 i insured a 320 cab, so for a girl its gonna only cost around a grand, and lets be serious here how ofted so our e30s step out while driving hard? so how is a 17yr old girl gonna get a sniff of oversteer?

I would rather have a shunt in my e30 than a saxo, but i have to agree polo or even 1.4 golf would be the sensible option!
