S50 Starting Problems - Runs for a second and cuts out

Hey Guys,

I have my S50 all wired up and it's cranking without a problem. It's getting spark and everything appears to be fine.

It cranks as normal, then starts like it should, but only stays running for a second or two before cutting out??? :?

I have no idea what could be causing this. There's tons of petrol and I've tried swapping the fuel lines over, but all she does then is cranks over without firing.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I'm uploading a video of the symptoms to youtube at the moment so I'll post a link to is as soon as it's finished.

Any help will be hugely appreciated... There's a massive owners club meet on Sunday that I need the car finished for....

i have no idea but check all the vac pipes ect for starters as the piping diagrams are easy to come by on the net.

sounds like the fuel pump shuts off after the ignition key springs back.
Insert a jumper between T30 and T87 of the fuel pump relay socket so the pump stays on until you pull the jumper

Tried that, it made no difference. The Fuel pump is priming the system, then the engine starts, and when it cuts out the fuel pump is still audibly running. So it sounds like everything is as it should be in that department.

:(

This is the EWS diagram I'm using:

The only discrepancy I've noticed is that the Green/Black wire from the EWS is actually connecting to a Black/Yellow wire in the X20/C101Plug. i.e. the wire in pin No. 10 is black/yellow. The two wires are not the same colour.

Check this

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... ory+wiring

*edit* starter wires are obviously not at fault here

That diagram is wrong mate, Pin 2 is the diagnostic link and should be a White/Violet

Everything else is the same

ffs - cheers dude. There are a couple of extra connections on my diagram. I want to remake it anyway (make the writing bigger for starters!) hence why i havent bothered posting it yet.

What about this one:

I found it here:

Very similar but not quite the same.

It is the same, just the starter wires are missing which are not needed anyway

Any thoughts on what to start investigating next?

i had this happen on my s50 once, as dan said, it was ews related. luckily for me i just unplugged all the connectors and re-connected and all was fine. strange really, as i had used the car for months, then that little problem. after speaking on the phone to ian (332), i unplugged it all, then reconnected it again, and it worked perfectly ever since.

Problem Solved. The induction loop around the ignition barrell was f*cked... I replaced it with another one and it's working perfectly now. :D :D :D :D :D :D
