Hi
i'm looking to buy 51mm legs obviously you can get them from 325's but since i can never find any, are 320i's the same? Also how do you identify a 45mm from a 51mm from looking
Also "springs" does the diameter matter when it comes to them
cheers

the 51 struts are found on all 325's all tourings and cabs. 320's do not have them unless a cab or touring.
you can tell the difference by measureing the diamter of the lower 8 inches of leg part between the spring and the hub. the diameter will be 51mm as opposed to 45mm!!!! you can use a pair of calipers or a diameter tape
the springs are the same for both diameters as far as i know

yes you can also do this, just not very accurateMotorhole wrote:Or just a measuring tape...diameter = circumference/pi !!mrLEE30 wrote: the diameter will be 51mm as opposed to 45mm!!!! you can use a pair of calipers or a diameter tape
all rear sets ups are the same but the spring rates are diufferent depending on what car you have (to take account of extra weight) there are aslo differetn shock absorbers for the same reason, however whilst all are interchangable they may not suit the car.
all fronts are the same being eitherf 45 or 51 mm, but again the spring and shocks are different for same reasons as rear. all are interchangable

touring and cabs have higher rated springs i think,318is has the only 4-pot m-tech rated springs.
none of the springs and shocks would make a difference if you buy uprated stuff to suite your needs. eibach - 35mm/-40mm are about the best price wise.and boge turbo dampers as fitted to the m3 are a good combo but it depends what ride your after.

m52 b30 stroker 6-speed 318is Galvanizer
m42 touring
+ a yard full of scrap turds

I see well i was just browsing a parts catalogue and the shocks are specific to the engine.
I have bought a set of fk springs but a set of shocks are up cheap in the f/s/s but for a 2.5.
Anyway thats another kettle of fish, I'll go with the original plan of boge turbos as i can get them for 28quid each.
