325i exhaust system hangers information?

Hi,

iv just bought a scorpion exhaust for my 325i touring but it has no brackets fitted to the backbox. Ive been everywere today and the cheapest quote i got to fit was £80 which i have no intentions of paying as i only paid £60 for the backbox!

What i want to know is were can i get the hanging brackets from and are they the same size as the oem ones on the stock rear boxes? I havent got an oem system for reference but i know the one ive got is a scorpion DTM backbox and it is huge

Where do you get the big rubber one that holds onto the bracket just engineside of the backbox?

Scorpion boxes are much bigger than standard, if you use standard brackets you will dent the backbox, Scorpion sell stainless brackets that are the right size for about £20 each

you can buy the proper brackets from scorpion for about £25 I believe but the normal hangars can be used though you need an extra long screw as the scorpion boxes are a bit bigger

Even if you use longer bolts the brackets will still dent the backbox as they are not long enough to wrap around

27.50 from gsf the whole lot in a box rubbers and new gaskets.

cheers guys, turns out the scorpion is a lot bigger than an oem system.

Just to give you an idea of the size of a scorpion if you dont know........

540mm x 290mm

148mm high

Looks a bit manky but looks like il have plenty of time to polish it up waiting for parts

I will try scorpion direct then i didnt think of that and the price seems good, but Does anyone know if all scorpion 325i backboxes are the same dimensions as i beleive the DTM is obsolete now.

And baz666 was that fitting kit for a scorpion or oem?

You can re-shape oem sized ones and use longer bolts, not ideal but better than paying out £50+ for a scorpion fitting kit.

The one from GSF is a standard oem size.

I will try this first i think as 50 quid plus for a fitting kit would hurt...ive done worse when it comes to exhausts

get a quote to have a couple of brackets welded to the box. I picked one of these up some time ago (it may have been the one off Barry) and it had a couple of really simple "U" shaped brackets welded onto it where the 325 mounts would mount to the car. No distortion to the box and very strong.

I'll try to find a picture of it later.

The top part of the OEM bracket ( which attaches to the mounting rubbbers ) are about £8 each from the dealers - I bought 2 a couple of weeks ago but they had to come from germany as there was no UK stock.

Mine has a non-standard stainless backbox - used a longer lower section and standard new upper sections and it went together just fine - Make sure you grease the bolts before you put it together - the reason I had to but new ones was that the captive bolts in the original ones sheared off when undone

The problem with welded on brackets is they cannot be adjusted as much

I would have bought the Scorpion brackets but its pretty pointless as the box was like this when I got it

i went to CES exhausts and they had the e30 325i brackets in a fitting kit which included the top and bottom brackets. I was thinking of buying them and getting some realy long bolts would that work do you think?

And danthe i could live with them dents its barely noticable Did you use the method im thinking off?

B7 i would get some welded on but wouldnt have the first idea were to go as everywere i can think of round here are robbing coonts

The genuine upper brackets from BMW have captive bolts built in which you'll need to remove if you want to use longer ones. - unless the new backbox is hugely bigger than the OEM one you just need to flatten out the upper bracket slightly and then use a longer under section cut to fit.

I only had to buy the top section - the lower parts I managed to re-use as they appeared to be stainless.

It's been suggested in the past by some more knowledgeable zoners that the box on my car is a Scorpion, however there are no manufacturers stamps anywhere on it so got no way of verifying this - but anyway the longer lower section works with OEM top sections.

Its all polished up now and Im fitting it tommorow so will post up some pics of it when finished.
