What was the factory badging on the back of a motorsport in 1991? I wondered if it had an ///M badge or something, or it was just standard 325?

Corrected, sports had the badges front and rear if you wanted them, I would imagine it would be the same for the motorsport if yuo wanted them, and M3's have M3.

your both right.............i think

i think the car came with out them from the factory and then the dealer put them on at your request and at their showroom before you collected

do what you like mate, its your car, technically, the 318is has a much right as a sport has to bear the ///M badge, as it has the same amount of m-technic gear on it, possibly barring the body kit in your case, it still has all the interior and suspension modifications to it.

there will always be those who disagree or have a different opinion than yourself, just do what ever you like the best, i won't shout at you.

IMHO no M badges on IS

but the fact you have chosen to own such a stupendous car means you should be respected anyway (to a certain degree) 8)

Well i have Tech II spoiler and Tech I sideskirts and the iS Lip i think that it works very well! what do you think mate? I was thinking of cutting the M off the badge all together so i would only have /// then just stick that on nice and subtle or is that just a bit mad?

just get something like a hacksaw and then saw through the M to just leave the /// then get some silicone sealer or something so that i could stick it back onto the grill as the badge fixing would not work anymore!!

Hey its quite melodramatic too, it touches on the human/personal aspect of going to war and seeing all that you do! :gay:

Seriously tho it tells a story thats probably more realistic than most ARMY films/tv stuff!

Ok, sorry to go back to the original question but, 6mths ago I went to the dealer to order some new ones and was refused unless i could supply an M3 chasis number. He said that they did supply them with my car as an option when new but there was a later outcry from M3 owners which cancelled the option and left the //M badges for M power owners only.

The motorsport convertible, nice car that it is, was conceived by cynical bmw marketing types to get premium wonga for an otherwise ordinary car. There is nothing motorsport about it apart from the name. It is a standard 325 convertible with some nice options and as such should not have a ' M ' badge. NONE of these cars left the factory with M badges and to fit them is sad. M badges on non M power cars are up there in the hall of shame with BKs , black grilles, dtm/scorpion exhausts, 60mm drop kits, eyebrows, coloured dials, tvs, induction kits, coloured lights etc etc.

Pete - i can see your arguement. But if as you say the ///M badge was a cynical marketing strategy for non-M division cars then people who have M-accessories (suspension, bodykit, whatever) should be within their rights to stick badges on the car.

It's only really a crime as far as i can see if you stick ///M3 badges on a regular E30.

If you were to badge a 325i Sport/Motorsport as ///M325i or 325iS or ///M325iS then that's personal choice and reflects the M-accessories without calling the car an M3 imho.

Got my fireproof suit on!! :?

Maybe i should remove the M logos from my steering wheel and bodykit too..! or where they fitted as standard.

Back to this old chesnut!

Anyone who wants a proper BMW supplied M badge fitted to their car, then drive down to your local dealership and ask for your badges. They will ask you what car you have and then the chassis no. If they do not comply with the BMW system, they will not supply them to you.

Also if people get hold of M badges for their cars from another source and proudly display them, those who know their cars will be standing their at your Ace Cafe / Guildford / Gatherings pointing, telling their mates and mumbling negative words, the most polite would be 'that ain't an M' others would use an adjective and a four letter word! Next time you're down the Ace Cafe, listen to the non BMW drivers when your standing their watching the burnouts.

If you want to display an M badge on a non M or M accessorised vehicle, that is your business.

Just to add, when I got my car (which was imported from Germany in 99) is had no badges, I went to my local dealer, ordered the badges and was told that the car was supplied without badges when new. On collection I had to show them the car for proof and gave me them FOC

Having thought some more about this. How is sticking an ///M badge on a 318iS or 325i Sport any different to when BMW produced the M535i?

Granted if you're sticking an ///M badge on a 316i it's a sin but with some or all the M-Tech accessories it should be accecptable and becomes a personal choice thing.
