High enough for what?

Expect it's pretty much the same as all cheap trolley jacks, just with a different name on it.

I wouldn't use a cheap small trolley jack they have a tendency to tip over when lifted to there maximum height which is just about high enough to get a wheel off.

I would go all out on a jack. Its a critical tool.

What if your stuck one day in the middle of nowhere and need to change a wheel and it wont jack high enough?
Or even worst what if youve jacked it up one day and the jack gives way while your underneath?

A jack is the one thing you cant skimp out on

1.Why would i not be carrying my essential BMW jack.
2. why would i not be using axel stands as safety is critical.

All i want it for is to lift onto axel stands

I've got one of those Lidl jacks, and the axle stands. I've used them a lot and had no probs. IIRC they come with a 2 year warranty.

If you want a heavier duty one, Halfrauds are selling a 4x4 jack that lifts to 52cms, I got one at Crimbo and it's cracking for the money (reduced from 75 to 35). If your E30's lowered more than 60mm it won't go under the sill though !

If there is anyone near Cambridge who wants one of these I have one I will give it to you for free.

Just out of interest and because someone mentioned the sills.

Where do you jack the car from? I always stick the trolley jack under the end of the chasis legs. Have to drive on a piece of wood before I can get it under there but thats a different story.

i jack from the lollypop on the front and the rear beam for one rear side or diff if i need both rears up but i prefer ramps for the later.

Dad made up a ramp but I can't drive up it cause the valance hits it :(

I'd be afraid of the jack slipping from the lolli pop but i have considered it a few times

Just remember to put a block of wood betweem the jac head and the part your jacking. Not only does it help protect but if you start hearing cracking on the wood you know to get out of the way. This technquie almost certianly saved my dads legs when I was really joung when his Damiler VP doubler 6 toppled over. He just got out in time! If your going to be lifting high enough for it to go on stands I would want good quality parts.

a lot of long reach jack are lower from rest too. most trolly jack struggle to go low enough to get anywhere under a E30.

i have some wooden ramps about 3 feet long and step up to 3 inches high, and the front spoiler still catches :P

I've got a very similar jack but mines from Halfords.
I jack either under the diff or under the crossmember at the front (with the other wheels chocked of course) and it just about lifts the car onto axle stands.
For lowered e30s I do need to lift it a bit with the BMW jack to get the trolley jack in!

just to say that I got mine from Aldi and when I was having the wheels refurbed I had to have it on the jack for a week ...never dropped a mm ..and two lengths of 3x3 raise it enough to get the jack under :D
