im considering getting rid of the car, think im gonna be sad when she goes as its my first e30 and have enjoyed my time with it, doin all the jobs etc. plus its never let me down since ive owned it. But i now feel its time to move on.
just think its strange as other cars ive had i havnt had a problem when selling them on, but with the moredoor i think its gonna be an emotional affair whats wrong with me ffs

Nothing.
Had over 20 cars and only felt sad about selling two of them..........
1st. Toledo tc.
2nd. Manta.
I also believe the more you work on a car the harder it is to part. It's not like that for me with bikes though.

If you can afford to, buy something with 6 or more cylinders.
How are you going to market it? Will you put the more door up for sale on the internet? Or just put it out the front of your house? Or send it down the car auctions? Or scrap it? Just interested to know.
I've just realised, your interested in that Silver Shadow aren't you?

Well, it's got teabag rear inner-arches, so i shouldn't be turning down the hubba-bubba offers so quickly!!

An M10 is better than an M40.

Only if its injected the Carbs on them are a pile of poop
mine used to nearly flatten the battery before it started if i was starting it in the cold and hadnt run in a while.
way better engines in terms of reliability but shit carb spoilt the 316 as well as poor MPG

Dont talk rubbish Ollie. BMW didn't spend millions to develop an inferior engine

Mine is running perfectly. Cold starts are not a problem at all.

Induction and fueling aside, the M10 is a far superioir design to the M40.
M10's generally dont eat cams, have a cam belt to snap and blow head gaskets.

Im sure M10's have a forged steel crank as well as opposed to the M40 cast iron one.

Mine was ok if it was started at least once a week

Can't be bothered when my carb is fine. You also have to have a manual choke.

M40's are lighter, designed to run on unleaded, dont require tappet adjustment and are the easiest engines to work on i've ever owned.
I've had them for 7 years(2 cars/85K miles total) and never had a cam or a head gasket go.
Neither of my cars ever let me down apart from a battery dying.

So is the m40 engine not any good then? As for the inner arches the passenger side has been patched up to stop the water getting in, Its holding up fine, the driver side is ok, there is a hole in the boot though which I'm gonna sort at the weekend

my 316 was designed to run on unleaded, it even had a sticker saying designed to run RON 95 Unleaded, i thought all e30s were

All E30's can run on unleaded. I am sure because I asked a BMW technician for Mobile Tradition, Germany.
M40's sound like diesels, the tapets get that bad.
An M10 is a far easier engine to work on. Less complex without fuel injection.
