well i'm only the 3rd owner, the previous 2 were father and son, the dad bought it in 1988 and sold it to his son in 1991, it has a genuine 68,000 miles on it, (i have every MOT to prove), it comes with full service history, all owners manuals and even the original bill of sale for £11,500. it has original bmw mats which were fitted when the car was bought so the carpets are literally like new, the interior is mint, no fag burns, the dash is in mint nick, no cracks etc, even has the original tape deck in it. the body work is in very good condition, the only bad points are the small hole on the inner wing, though its not an MOT failure and the bottoms of the wings have started to go, the engine is very sweet and pulls well, i've fitted a new clutch master and slave cylinder aswell as a new dizzy cap and rev limiting rotor arm. the car will do 43mpg on a motorway and around 30 in town. it also has central locking and electric mirrors and a manual sunroof. all tyres are very good and it has tax and test till the end of 7/2010.

I once swapped a shed of a 1985 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SR for a shed of a 1983 E28 BMW 528i manual.
I think I did ok out of that deal!
I lost that car though when it got clamped and I wasn't going to pay £60 for it, so I threw the keys at the bloke and said "F**king keep it mate!".

that really does look like a nice shell and won't take a lot to make it minty fresh
then lob a proper engine in there

With that registration, it should be almost rust free, as it comes from one of the better parts of the country!
