as far as i know, - its the bushes. Does exaxtly the same on mine, and i know mine are rendered. In the process of refurbing a rear trailing arm now with new ones to swap straight over - you'l be able to feel the improvement too!

I had serious axle tramp when doing burnouts at the drag strip, especially when releasing the foot brake and allowing the car to launch forwards whilst still having the rears lit up. Every bush on my car was brand new (except the diff mount bush)

It is normal.

Apparently the new BMW motorsport group N rear axel bushes i have aquired eliminate this.

That remains to be seen.

Yes Lee they are but the voids are much smaller and i think the rubber is a different compound.

Do E30s suffer from axle tramp? I thought it was caused by the axle twisting on a leaf sprung rear suspension set up.

BSS. I guess they are just harder material.

Perhaps the "race/black" poly bushes you can get from various places are the same.

To the OP, it's basically everything under the back of the car moving around due to bush/damper wear.

would the rear diff mount cause this? the car in question is a 525i sport m50 e34 but i have also had it on my e30 sports but when drifting round a track i dont get it when sidewards just in a strait line, the rear beam bushes are polly (yellow) and i have just changed pitman arms and arb links, the flex disc (rubber doughnut thing) looks in good shape as are my engine and box mounts, i may change the centre bearing as that may have been over looked, other things i was thinking it could be are:

the rear top mountings, rear diff mounting bush, or the centre bearing?

just wondering what would eccentric rear arm bush ware do to the car? do they ware badly or is it somthing that never really goes wrong?

Everything on the rear of my sport and incidently my old S50 E30 was new and both had wheel tramp.

Its not worn out bushes causing it. The "tramp" is causes by the tyre starting to grip whilst still spining causing it to hop and there fore shudder.

Anti tramp bars are designed for leaf sprung rear axels.

E30's have semi trailing arm rear suspension.

anything is possible with fabrication i'm sure.just depends whether or not you need to elimanate the problem or your driving style at certain responses?

So whatever the noise is its not axle tramp.

The is no need for anti tramp bars on a semi trailing arm set up as its an IRS where as, for example, an old escort has a live rear axel with half shafts and there fore not IRS.

so why the gerry tramp?

loss of traction upon bite= mas rear bush stress the time you've spent Bunny hopping :?

i had this in a twin wheel luton once :D

get some rear bush void fillers as they cut down on the movment/play in the beam.

danthe did a group buy ages ago on them.

they definetly work and cut down on the "ddddd ddddd ddddd" lol from the back end.

decent rear end bushes and void fillers is about as good as you are going to get to stop the odd noises even a good e30 will make under use.
