noise from rear end

i have a noise coming from the back of my 316i when i go over a big bump or sometimes corner hard, it sound a bit like the tire rubbing but im pretty sure its not, could any of the bushes make a noise like that if worn? cheers

Could be your wheel bearings...does it happen when you turn in both directions or only in one direction?
Also could be a broken/collapsed spring causing a bit of wheel rub...

i know the wheel bearings are ok, i dont think the shocks are in great condition tho . .

If it is the shocks - it is easy to take them off and check (as long as it is not a tourer) Look for leaking shocks when they are on the car. Could be the top mounts if its not the shock. Is it like a loose jangling sound - like something rattling? If so it could be the rear top mounts. Replacing shocks and mounts should take you no more than about an hour or two. (longer if it's a tourer!)
