If there were aftermarket wheels on your car before you fitted the BBS, is it possible the wheel bolts are longer than standard?

Sounds like an experience I had and what Brian is referring to above.
I suspect your wheel bolts are longer than needed and were OK on the other alloys, but the BBS perhaps are not as deep in the centre hub of the wheel, so the bolts are poking through the hub further and catching the handbrake shoes.
When you drive the car away next time and the noise starts, pull the handbrake on a click and see if the noise goes.
This would confirm my theory. But DO NOT then use that as a fix. You need to grind a couple of mm off the bolts at the most and then re-fit and see what happens. If you don't fix it then the studs will just chew the handbrake shoes & springs to bits.

Wouldn't a set of normal length wheel bolts be a better option?

i had an experience of this. just use 5mm spacers if the bolts are slightly too long

Its the wheel bolts- they are too long - not original, go to the scrappy/ or dealers and get some originals.
Also, you mention only 1 bbs being fitted, if you have odd size wheels on the back you will ruin the diff. If you have LSD then its dead.

If you have a locking wheel nut fitted on each wheel on the back, the odds are the length of the trread on the locking nut is longer than the other 3 bolts. So this pokes through into the drum where the handbrake shoes are and it is clipping the edge of the shoes.
You either need to fit a washer or file a couple of mm off the end of the thread on the locking nut so it doesn't catch the shoes. By pulling on the handbrake a notch it moves the shoes out the way slightly, but this is just a bodge and you'll wear out the shoes with the handbrake being on slightly, not to mention the annoyance of the light being on the dashboard when you are driving
