What sort of top speeds have you seen out of your motor?

Have managed to see 145mph on the clock in my 325i
(not on a public highway, obviously  that would be illegal)

got a video of the clocks somewhere. will try and find it.

reckon it would have squeezed out another 5mph before hitting the limiter.

Have also seen 280kph on the clock of my mates porsche 968 (he was driving) works out to 173.99mph  . puts my 145 to shame.

How much road do you all have?! I have had my 323 up to about 90 to 95 mph down the main straight of one of the tacks near me but that was only at the very end and it wasn't pulling that much by then so I think I would need a lot of road to get over about 100mph. My car has a full exhaust, 6 branch, standalone ems, and a 4.1LSD that should all help acceleration. I don't think it would get much over 110mph anyway.

try the M1. thats a good road. i go from j14a to j42 and back the otherway about once a month. plenty of room there!!! (of course i stick to 70mph)

My lightly modded 325i managed 155 on the speedo, so about 140mph.

had 120 in the bm and in the festa top end isnt a strong point with the 316i's lol

speedo readings are pretty pointless when your talking 3 figure speeds..

better to work it out with rev counter and gearing

most i've had (in kph of course) is 115 on the clock in my 316i (4 12+stone guys in the car with shit loads of booze in the boot) was revving at about 5.3k

and an actual 141 (worked out with revs and wheel size etc) out of my old Astra GSi

*cough* 163mph in a E36 M3 EVO 8)

Mate driving, and ran out of motorway, sorry i mean test track...

And the car was still pulling strong! speed matched satnav thingy readings...

If we're talking revs only then as we all know the speedo's are useless over a ton anyway, I've seen 6k in fifth before, clock was around 142 and that was with the 15's on. With the 17's the top end is crap.

I think all e30's suffer from lack of areodynamics in the real world, but with 3.91 diff's about I doubt they'd get much more over 130.....but they will get there quicker!

Is there a guide to actual speed against revs?

(taking each diff ratio into account of course?)

I can do 135 mph in mine. My speedo is spot on with the rolling road I had done over a year ago.
My mate had a 325 and his speedo @ 131 read 142!!!!

My rolling road figure showed rev limiter in 4th as 124.3mph

thats shows that at 6k revs on a 3.73 diff I should be at 140mph!!

Might get hold of a GPS and check for sure..... :D

135 on the speedo at 6k revs so still had another 500rpm, ran out of 'runway' though.
My old 320 touring had 130 on the speedo on a slight incline before a caravan pulled out in front of me! I swear that engine was not stock, it seemed to accelerate way more urgently than my 325. Or maybe that was because it had only done about 70k miles as opposed to 170. :D

i did 210 kph on the freeway at 2:00am :)

257 kph (160) @ 7000 rpm, till had another 1000+ revs to go 8O, on a rolling road 207 mph :?

My car goes off the clock hence my recent purchase of an M3 cluster with a higher max speed.

Need a 3.64 diff really as revs run out pretty fast with the 3.91

same here had 135 in the sport which is as far as u can go with the gearing that was right round at 6k RPM in 5th hehe. Think my speedo is still good as it reads the same as Daves mighty Civic, as front wheel drive cars have more accurate speedo's?

120 quite often on the way home from work if ive been working late (no traffic), not bad for a 1.8, fastest ive been is 137 in my mates supra

Mine managed 157 mph (measuerd using GPS) at Bruntingthorpe. It still had a little more to come, but I had to slow down for a 90 degree bend at the end of the straight. I reckon it would probably kiss 160 with a bit more runway :D

the car is dips old 335i turbo, i've now taken it off him and doing more mods to it, it is geared for 190+mph take off 20 mph for drag and thats what it can do with the power and torque it produces!!
to be honest bmw speedomiters are electronic and very accurate, when i got tugged by the police(they were in an unmarked car!!) for sppeding, they said they had me on camera doing at one point 130, but averaging 100, and i never whent over 130 on my clocks so they must be accurate?!?

I bet that 207 was on Bexley's Dyno :D . Something isn't right with that figure. How high would it rev? 10.000??

Are you still running the stock diff (3.25)? I need to rev a little higher for 160 than you. IRRC your tyres do have the correct circumference.?!?

127mph 318i M40, felt really good till the autonaitor belt snapped :clin: I kind of stopped rather sharpishly when i saw the temperature rising very quickly into the red. Luckily no damage and was really impressed with how quick the car stopped, front conversion is 325i but did'nt think it would make that much of a difference :D

Also done 145mph in a scoob
And my first car on the road..........Citreon AX 115mph 8O down hill with the wind behind me  ...........VERY scary!!!!!

dyno figuers for top speed are W*@K !! they dont account for drag and as the e30 is a brick it dont cut thru the air to well, as i said my m3 is geared for 190+mph but would never get there unless i had about 750bhp and took it to the milbrook bowl or had a long long straight road(4 or 5 miles maybe) !!
