I am thinking about the below car however it is a Cat C and has not had a VIC Check. Does it require this as the owner states that it does not. Also what ort of value do you reckon this car is worth as a Cat C?

Cat C does require a VIC check, as E30Beemerlad Cat D does not.

Personally it's worth around that price

He is looking for £1500, but just not sure about the Cat C, i have done a HPI which says that it has not had a VIC. How can it be Moted and have a V5 without a VIC as i thought the DVLA took them away until the VIC was completed.

He's dreaming if he want's 1500 for it, especially at this time of the year

If he had claimed directly off a third party insurer for accident damage and they have paid out and he kept the vehicle. he will have just kept the logbook too. Insurers are sloppy for that.

When I took my cat C turd to the MOT today it was on the DVLA system and nothing stopped them from doing the MOT.

The only way to find out if the car has a "marker" against it is to ring VOSA and they will tell you if it needs a VIC.

I think it's true that a cat C 'should' require a VIC, but I'm not sure they always get the marker.

Frankly I think the bloke is confused - I wonder if really the write-off is an old one, and the car has been put back on the road with whatever procedure was correct at the time. At a later date he's found out about the old write-off and blinded himself on the internet with all the legalese associated with it.

What is/was the damage? You ought to find out before considering buying it!

On Hpi it said it was written off 31/08/08, so one year ago so i cant see the damage being major. It also says that the Vic has not been completed on the HPI.

Because who would repair a car worth £2000 if it was majorly damaged, it just would not be worth it.

If major damage occured when the car was relatively new it would more likely get reparied as it would have a higher resale value.

find out how long he has owned the car! it has 11 owners so is bound to have been shunted at some point, there was a very simular one on ebay a few months age with heavy front damage which he stated was repairable, it was not to far from that one either

i wonder if that is coincedence?

On it's plus side it has a new hood with a clear window,worth £300-£350 s/h.Neon trim looks complete but the drivers seat is showing wear.
Always difficult to tell from piccies just how decent the paint is but must be worth £1200-£1500.

So Either he did the HPI before the Cat C reg and caused the damage himself, or he is lieing.....

Looks alright to me - insurers would probably write it off for something as minor as a replacement front wing . Certainly looks clean and in reasonable nick - could always get an RAC inspection done if you were really concerned.

You dont seem to understand what im getting at, what I meant was, where was the damage, how badly damaged was it and has it been repaired properly. It might look straight, but thats the tip of the iceberg.

tbh... it will only give you a headache.

just get a nice straight one, that will be easy to resell if you need to without people asking what
happend where the accident damage etc etc..
