Hey guys im looking to either re-trim my convertible leather or dye them which is best and more to the point cheaper but still want a good job..

P.s My leathers are mint mint mint black leather almost new but i want red leathers and door cards as i have a black soft top and think it will look sexy..

IMO i would dye them to sustain a bit of originality

There are quite a few threads/people who have dyed there interior, kit from furnitureclinic IIRC

DON'T re trim "mint mint mint black leather" its a waste of whats becoming a rarer and rarer thing to find (mint ones that is - not black ones! lol) thats MY opinion anyway!

I personally wouldn't dye them if they are mint either - thats having dyed 3 sets of interiors now myself! - i would buy a knackered set of leathers then spend £100 re-dying/restoring them whatever colour you like as Imys says above. You'd be amazed at how you can turn round/restore a knackered set of leathers (fill in cracks, holes, tears etc) to get them to look like new!

have a butchers in the care and detailing section - oh and questions on doing it just ask

if they are mint mint why not sell/swap for cash your way for a set less mint and dye to make mint that way by swapping you should be able to more than cover the cost of re dye (approx £110 for the kit i think)

forgot to read all your post! - the kit from furniture clinic has plenty in to do the door cards and other trim etc.

Hi guys cheers for the info, What im going to do is buy an old set like you mentioned and play with them and dye them to see how i lke it then sell which ever set i dont want to keep.

Any body know anyone sellin any cabby interiors...?

Kep an eye on the parts for sale section,look for a scruffy but complete interior in grey or tan.

Whilst it is possible to PAINT black leather a lighter colour (i.e Red), you will not be able to DYE it a lighter shade.

You may find that selling your mint black leather will fund not only a new pale set of leathers, but the colour change process too.

Just refering to my experiences using dyes and their makers reccomendations...always willing to be proved wrong by those that know better....

I would 100% agree on buy a second interior. Dying takes a lot of effort and time, which means you might give up. Also, first time round might have a few areas which should be addressed, which means you'll be more willing to fix it!

Buy a complete, but tatty and worn interior. No rips, holes etc, but cracks and scratches are fine.

Lucky, a higher percentage of cabby interiors are leather (or seem to be) so finding the right set should be easyier.

Finally, you use a special filler and sand down to fill in cracks etc, and the dye itself is more like paint that seeps in. So it really doesn't matter what colour you choose. A lighter colour (such as grey, tan or beige) *might* be slightly easyier and quicker to change colour.

yeah sorry ......my bad......i'm purely talking about painting not dying i just wrongly call them the same thing
