I'm trying to raise some funds, and i'm not a great fan of private plates. Was wondering how to go about selling mine?

its all on the dvla web site
you need the car to be taxed and moted
or the mot still valid and the tax to have run out naturaly and not cashed in.
whats the plate?
costs 80-120 i think to swap over i think 80 to retain it
cant remember

I had one up for sale with RegTransfers , They don't actually buy it off you , unless it is something really desirable.
They give you a price they think its worth, then bung their wedge on and advertise it !
They never managed to sell mine so i never found out the final part
I think you'll find once its sold they pay you your bit and do all the transfers for you
cheers
Andy

I'm worried regtransfers or something would take a huge chunk. The reg is SXI 6816

put it on a retention certificate (£80), you will then get a new reg (age appropriate) for your car and a certificate will drop round in the post, the reg is then held on this.
You will need to have new plates made up but not before the paperwork is done, and don't forget to change the tax disc! it will be in the reg of the private plate and thus void, so get a refund and pop down the PO for a new one.
Then sell away, advertise on car sites and the old ebay. Make sure the buyer knows that an £80 fee is payable to transfer it on their vehicle and make sure you get back at least what it cost you to sell like the lost tax, new plates and £80 transfer fee.
Whats the reg, if its a crappy NI one its not worth anything anyway.

Worth £199 tops, and don't expect a wuick sale its not a private plate at all, its a NI plate.
Might be worth something to an sxi owner but no one else. NI plates scream cheap and nasty.

I wouldn't bother selling through them, do it yourself on eBay and hope for the best.
Leave it on the car until you have a buyer, then you have to pay costs to put it on retention and then you can put the 'Nominee' details down at the same time, job done. Bear in mind though it will cost £105 to start with, will the plate sell for much, you have to ask yourself ?

Wouldn't have thought so. I bought my NI plate from RegTransfers (or someone similar) for £150+ vat including the transfer, so by the time they've taken their wedge, you'll not get a lot. Dunno how much similar plates are going for now, though, that was about 10 years ago.

they done all the paper work and i got another reg on the nissan free and sold the car.
that plate went on a jag XK8 as i had to sign a form to allow it.
