Borbet B - Would you still buy them?

Recently I had a little talk to Borbet. Apperently the UK branch has tried to get these alloys reproduced before.
They were discontinued due to demand. Borbet (Germany, manufactures) believe that there isn't enough of a demand to spend 30,000 euros to reproduce the 'tooling' to make these alloys again. The original rig was apparently destroyed.
They laid down a hint that "unless a group buy of ten people would be willing to pay £750 per wheel (£3k per set)" then that wont be able to happen. But I have a thought.... If enough people show interest then these may be reproduced, even if its just a limited run. 20 people around the world could drop this to £1.5k a set and 40 would get them to £750 for a complete set etc.
I doubt a group buy is nessecary, but even showing enough demand mind make them consider recreating this design.
Personally (and I know I'm not alone), I think that these are one of the best looking alloys for BWMs and VWs and possibly work for a few other retro cars (maybe *Fords*, sorry for the mention).
What do you guys think, and whilst I'm having some contact with Borbet, any questions you want to fire at them?
A little reminder for those who cant remember what wheels I'm on about or people who have never seen them before
Finally, if there is a good enough demand on here for a large group buy (15-20 on here alone) I might be able to persuade Borbet into making sets (for normal price, not silly money) saying this is from this site alone. I may even venture into the realms of VDubbers and even speak to some yank BMW owners and see if they would be willing to bump up the numbers.
I know this may go against some of the people who have a "rare" set of Borbet B's but there are quite a few of us who want those alloys!
Just grabbing some opinions guys!

Hello Neil..... trust you to be the first on here.
Just more so curious to find out why they had stopped, as personnaly they look miles better than borbet a's, bs's, t's etc. And they find themselves getting fitted to older cars, where the cross-spoke design is soo much better.
Yes I do want a set, but I also want a new set so I can spray them without feeling guilty

From what i know they stopped producing these in the 1990's but then they did reproduce them in 2005. I know because i bought a brand new set for £676 delivered and styledynamix were selling them on special offer. Borbet A were discontinued at one time and you can buy them new now.
They prices they're asking to reproduce them now is insane, they are nice wheels but i'd never pay £1500 for a set. I once enquired to BBS about reproducing the RS split rim and they confirmed the same the tooling was all worn out etc etc so its not likely it will happen.

What I've found out is with enough interest they may do a very large group buy, or reproduce them. No one in their right minds would pay £1500 for a set of alloys (like Borbets).
But, it could be possible to reproduce these if there is a proven market.

Can't imagine a company doing it for that to break even with no profit if the tooling is 30k...

Once the tooling is there its straight profit for the company for every set they make. If they could get numbers close to breaking even just to reproduce some alloys, then thats a much more financially stable aproach than designing a new alloy, making/setting up the tooling, then selling the alloys hoping enough will sell in the first place to cover the cost for the machine.
If the machine costs are covered almost straight away, then why wouldn't they?

NayC you will be a LEGEND if you can make this happen and get it back in production.
If it ends up being £750 for a set, I don't know anyone who won't want a set!

with the ongoing trend for retro wheels, and the fact that borbet no longer have tooling for the wheels, i'm suprised one of the pikey replica wheel companies hasnt started doing a copy.
lenso seem to be selling plenty of their bbs rs knockoffs, and lm reps were everywhere last year.

What a stupid company, cant they see that they have sold millions of new sets of borbet As? every golf has a set ffs.
And lets face it , borbet As are ugly, people only buy them for the dish. If you could get the dish as well as a pretty centre everyone would have a set.
Bunch of noobs.

Just schtum up 50k for 100+ sets and start your ebay shop! You should have kept quiet about this
Was there any discussion about mixed sets, ie 7.5, 8.5, 9j availability? I'm sorry to all the blingmeisters but 9j all round is truly

imo
Good skills tho NayC count me in provisionally

Probably the best looking non-standard E30 wheel IMO.
I can't justify spending £750 on a set for a sub £1k bronzit turd though

I think if they started to make them again they would just become common and loose their appeal just like the borbet A's....

Agree with Shaz, but I don't think Borbet A's have lost their appeal? Still very much appealing to alot of people. Just not rare like the B's.

Na i was selling the 7.5's all round ages back now
Im running the same profile all round at present due tot he rubbing at the rear 205/40/16 all round on toyo's which dont look to bad ie hardly notice the strech to look at them
