I am wanting to order the Z3 short shift setup for my E30. I can't find the thread detailing the parts and numbers etc.

Can anyone help,

Cheers, Mark

Replace ALL moving parts and washers and clips.Do not try to save a few pence by re-using the original parts.
When complete, the Z3 short shift is a pleasure to use, even my wife says so!

So basically thats all the parts listed in the wiki minus the exhaust gasket listed at the bottom!

Cheers

I think it costs closer to £70 to get all the parts, but apparently it makes all the difference.

Is it really that simple? Can someone describe the differences between standard and Z3? ALso is it compatible with all E30s (inc. Tech1)?

its just like a short shift kit . the length and throw of the gear lever is reduced making it feel more positive imo
cheers

Mine cost 20quid i bought the shifter 2nd hand off eko (tony)

Its a easy job to fit didnt change any of the bushs either as mine had recently been replaced just releaseing the white one around the gear stick was a git but i done it

Must admit though upon first fitment i put the shift round the wrong way :o: , but thats how it was fitted on the old shifter so it must of been wrong when i got the car. "min job though took the clip off and spun it job done

It made the car feel a different beast notchy and more positive threw the gears

So just the blue highlighted parts in the wiki article are required to make the box feel shorter and tighter?

Mine cost £76 for ALL the genuine parts including a new shift rod and exhaust gasket thingy (technical term). Refurbished every washer and clip all the way back and it makes a massive difference

But that makes the job a lot harder and longer?

Yes it does, the bush at the gearbox end of the shifter rod is a bit fiddly to get out and refit but worth it I think. Absolutely fine if you don't replace it (and cheaper), it's not essential...I'm just a bit particular about things like that!

OK, how about you're doing it alone and no one can change gear to see if it clears the damper, will you be able to hear it/feel it?

to replace the bushing aswell, is that a gearbox off job? or can it all be done on the car? im guessing the exhaust gasket is because you need to take the exhaust and box off to do it?

From what I've heard, you can access the gearbox linkage from under the car.

Remove it, rebuild it and place it back in. Is it possible to do it that way? (Mine was done when I bought the car, but I'm going to re-do it as I rebuild the car).

Nothing has to be removed to change all the linkage, though it's certainly easier with the prop and exhaust off.
Remove the gearbox crossmember and lower the rear of the gearbox down a little makes things easier, but watch out for things getting stretched under the bonnet, and the fan getting intimate with the radiator.
The oil seal on the shaft coming out of the gearbox should be changed as well when the joint is off.
