When I had my cab engine out I tied the gearbox bell housing up to the garage roof rafters, I forgot and lowered the car and the strop broke and I smashed the bell housing.Luckily without my bonse in the way

Not really "working" on,

But waaaaaaay back in the day I had a large stereo in my E30 and the boot was efectively a speaker compartment with the ski hatch removed as a front port big enough to get your head in. I thought one of the subs had blown one night and paused the music and stuck my head and hand in through the ski hatch to check the movement of the cone holding a torch in my mouth, when my mate who had the steareo remote thought it would be funny to unpause the track, unfortunately it was almost full blast at the time so I basically went deaf for an hour, had tinitis for the next week and have had slightly knackered hearing ever since !!

Doesnt help that some of my cars have been rather loud/stripped out since which has worsened the effects over time !! lol

J. :o:

Messing around changing wheels over when I first got the RD wheels, Couldn't find the handle for my trolley jack so used the BMW jack. just about to fit the old wheel again and had that horrible feeling of "ths car is moving" as the car fell off the jack onto the upright wheel.

At least I know that arch isn't rotten. Not a bit of damage apart from a slightly squished hand. I felt such a numpty :o:

Not really exciting but I was changing my front disks for the first (and so far only!) time and couldn't get the caliper bolts undone with my normal ratchet handle. I spoke to a mechanic and he lent me a 3ft breaker bar.
Once I got it back to the car I couldn't work out how the hell I was going to use it without turning the car upside down or digging a trench underneath it.
Later in the pub, someone told me to turn the steering wheel so I could use the bar out to the side.

I did feel a little bit stupid :)

The person that owned the car before me haas chewed up the thermostat bleed screw.. so I could only undo it with mini molegrips! Once I'd finished, I left the molegrips there for over a month! Driving the car around with them still attached to my engine! :D

Yep, I done that too.

Not me but one of the funniest I heard was someone trying to evacuate a fuel tank with a hoover.

Not exactly working on but....

Not long after a bought my first E30 (D reg 325i) in 2002 i was about 40 miles from home one evening and while parked up i had fully lowered both the front windows. When it was time to leave the windows (electric) wouldn't raise! I checked the fuses and they were ok so as i had no tools and it had gone midnight i decided to to just drive the 40 odd miles home with the windows open fully. This may not sound that bad but it was DECEMBER and the journey home involved 30 miles of motorway! This combined with it starting to p!ss down with rain made for a VERY cold and wet journey home! When i got home i just bagged up the windows and decided to look at it in the morning.

Morning came and low and behold both the bags had blown out from the windows so i was pressented with two VERY soggy highbacks recaros!

As i looked in the car and noticed a blank switch on the dash next to the hazzard light switch. I though to myself "What the hells that for?" and pressed it. Nothing happened but then it got me thinking so i tried the windows again and yes, you guessed it they worked!

Actually, I would say that the stupidest thing I have done is taking a rust - riddled Alpine White 325i SE and speniding 9K on it to make it look 'better'.

Well, either that or letting the bonnet drop on my head

Rusty old Tech 1 Ollie. Beautiful in its own way, but really really on its last legs bodywork - wise.

When I bought my car, there was no E30 zone. Dial - up connections, and looking at what people did in magazines was the only guidence available.

And I will bear the brunt of being the pre - facelift tech 1 killer, if people want to accuse me of being such.

I spent the money because the engine was, and is, a fine, fine thing.

Car's got a heart that won't stop beating

Exhilliarating :D

A true tech 1 is a Sport

Anything else just has a tech 1 body kit.

This the the same for tech 2 as well.

 A rusty chromie then!

Anyway back on topic, never had an accident working on an E30, and only ever driven into a hedge on my drive!

But then I have only owned my E30 a few months, and haven't passed my test yet!

Never said you did. Its just a common missconception that because you have a tech 1 kit, you have a tech 1.

Barry, dear. I wish I could invite you to look over my car as I bought it 9 / 10 years ago. That ain't gonna happen really is it!

When I had my pre facelift 325i SE done up by the inmates, they painted my headlining in an attractive Anthracite colour.

Hate that

Haha, I know Barry. Just winding you up.

It's good that we have people that strive to keep the original cars alive as well as the molested turds like mine.
