Re shelling a car and the associated paper work...

Following a minor incident at Snetterton  I need to reshell my E30 Race car.

My current car has tax, mot, insurance etc etc... I also have a rolling chassis onto which I am going to move just about every nut and bolt from my car.

I'm wondering what the best way of doing this from a paper work perspective is and if the DVLA would let me change the chassis number on my V5?

Any suggestions ?

TIA
Richard

are they both the same model on the paperwork? if so then i think you can stick with your original registration and change the chassis no on the v5. if they are different models then you might have a problem.

i think that would be called ringing . if your using a new shell no probs but if it is second hand i think you may end up with a q reg maybe better just to say nothing if your gonna keep the car just paint it same colour as old 1 .

IMO the easiest option would be to fill in the paperwork of the rolling chassis with the new engine number and capacity and any other info needed once you've swapped all the bits over from the track car.

No point ending up in court for swapping vehicle identities(effectively ringing a motor)

The replacement shell is from a B reg 323i, mine was a G reg 318i.

Only thing is if I move it all to the new car I guess I need to Re MOT, Re Tax yada yada....

I might give the DVLA a shout and see what they suggest, I've no desire to do anything fishy but I;d rather not waste money if I dont need to.

If you are reshelling a car as long as you keep two or more major components engine and gear box I believe you are allowed to move the reg number etc over.

how can this be ringing the car if you are informing the dvla of the re-shell?.

Obtain a new shell and you can keep the VIN and I.d of the original. Use a 2nd hand shell and your left with the I.D of the donor or a Q plate.
You can not use the B plate shell and transfer the id as it has already been registered with the dvla and also because the shell is older than the g reg one.
