What's an engineless M3 worth?

A mate of mine has been offered an M3 that's had a very light (15 MPH) roll, he wants it for the engine and gearbox. He needs to draw a grand for the rest of the car to make it worthwhile.

Any chance?

All the interior, suspension, brakes, diff etc are ok. Most panels are slightly damaged including the roof.

If the interior is absolutely tip top leather that could be worth Ԛ£500 alone

I reckon he will get a grand out if it, possibly more, just depends on the condition of the bits

i agree

if the interior, suspension, and other parts are still useable then should get that np

could wings etc still be used??

I have no idea how much its worth, but it will worth more in parts than as a rolling shell if most of the panels are damaged.

How much do you reakon he will want for the suspension, brakes and diff?

I need an M3 diff for my S50 conversion and Im probably going for a 5stud conversion at some point.

Yes, but they're not mint.

No leather mentioned, but good condition apparently.

Wheels are 16". (He's been told that they're genuine M3 wheels? Worth anything?)

The roof's kinked, which is a shame, because it isn't recorded as an insurance claim. (Hpi clear)

No idea how much he wants for bits as we don't know anything about their value. I told him I'd ask on here to get an idea.

He hasn't bought it yet, so no pics available, he wants to gauge interest before taking the gamble.

We know the guy who recently rebuilt the 230 BHP engine, which is his main target, but would need a grand back after taking the engine and box (for a rally car) to make it viable.

the wheels if they are 16s and original that means the car is an evo 2 and the wheels will be worth Ԛ£500-Ԛ£600 on there own

He should be able to make Ԛ£1k+ I would of thought. All depends if people want the parts.

Could be a 'normal' M3 with the Evo wheels, no mention of it being an Evo.

Surely it'd be worth straightening an Hpi clear bent Evo wouldn't it???

an i ask how one rolls an m3 at 15mph?

if the panels are fubarred then there is a good chance that the suspension is guff too?

Apparently not. (Unconfirmed as yet, but the owner is known via another person.)

Don't have the full story, but the owner knows my mate's no mug, and it's all supposed to be an honest tale.

I've rolled a car at about 15 MPH twice. Once after a huge, out of control, speed scrubbing drift, followed by clouting a kerb full sideways on just before coming to rest. Another time with the offside suspension fully loaded on slicks and clipping a tyre with the nearside front in a chicane, just tipped it over, I couldn't believe it, but it did. :(

Yep, agreed, but reported to be okay, and the guy viewing it is well clued up.

If a good S14 could be found for Ԛ£1K, my mate wouldn't even be considering this car.

Ԛ£1.5K + VAT, 'off the floor' with no guarantee is the best he's found.

If the engine has been rebuilt and is putting out 230bhp then it's not an Evo. Is it?

No idea, but the guy who owns the car has a dry sumped 2.3 S14 with GP A internals and lairy cams that gives 290 BHP in a MK2 Escort, his engine builder is the person that we know.

I'd guess that it was a standard M3 engine that had been rebuilt with a few mods.

He's not green, I'm pretty sure that if it was an Evo he would know, and repair it.

THanks for the input guys and to you Simon for an excellent thread. I will be going to view the car one night next week and I will know more then. Nice to know that some of the bits will be worth something to somebody.

Nice.

The guy who is doing my ally welding is building a Mk2 Escort rally car with an Ex touring car M3 motor. Its 4pot 16v so I would assume its an S14. Im sure he said he is expecting 300+bhp 8O

A list of the valuable bits to check with an approximate value would be handy for you wouldn't it Lee?

There was an ex DTM 297 BHP 2.0 Litre S14 floating around for sale a few months ago. 8)

Not that engine he's got is it??? 8) 8) 8)

I'm sure he'll be interested.

Where's M3Pilot? I was in contact with him about his 2.3 S14, but I haven't seen him on any forums for ages.

Dont think he said DTM, but it could be 8)
He has had the engine for a while now, its been totally rebulit and has a stupidly high rev limit. And you should see the size of the intake trumpets on the TBs 8O

Im going out there again the end of next week, so I will ask him more about it and maybe try to get some pics, but he might not want to give too many details away cause he is building it for racing.

This is the DTM one that was for sale. 297 BHP at 9600 revs, not bad for a 2 litre. 8)

It was Ԛ£4K without any management/ancillaries, and it was freshly rebuilt.

Nice

I dont think thats the one in that case. He definitely did the rebuild on the one he got. And he doesnt have the Carbon plenum.
The only thing I remember about it is the rocker cover is green.
