Insurance Question-Not the usual

Not the usual blah blah blah anyone know of any cheap car insurers for the e30 type question that surface here every 4th day or so.

I have been looking at renewals for mine and it is getting close to that time. I expectto may more then I did last year as I am going to fully comp and adding mrs86 as a named driver. So far, the cheapest is looking to be elephant. When I am going through confused.com and listing my modifications, should I be putting an m40-m42 conversion as engine swap standard or engine swap non standard?

Anyone know?

Thanks in advance chaps.

I would say non-standard bud. While it is still an e30 engine swap, it is not the standard engine your car rolled off the production line with. Just my 2p though, could be wrong :D

I would say an engine swap standard would mean like for like i.e. m40 for m40 and anything else would be non standard

Engine swap non standard, as you now have an extra 8 valves.

No charge and I'm here all week winkeye

im guessing standard as in standard e30 engine within the range.a like for like wouldnt be a modification. anything else i think would be non standard.

Well its leaning towards non standard as the general consensus. Probably one of the proper modified insurers will get back to me anyway.

You should be putting non-standard - standard would mean you have swapped for another 1800 m40. Frankly, I doubt you will find the best price for a modified car on confused, or any of the comparison sites, as it isn't really set up for the intricacies of modified vehicles - I would think you would be far better contacting a few specialist insurers direct, and a broker or two.

non-standard as it is exactly that, a non-standard engine to that particular model of car

The price comparison sites are likely to throw a spaz with stuff like that, your time would probably be better used contacting the usual specialist brokers.

Confused.com are owned by Admiral, who own Elephant & Bell Direct

why would you be declaring a like for like engine replacement as an engine conversion to your insurer in the first place? are you expected to declare replacing your worn oem brake pads as a non standard brake conversion?
i know you cant second guess insurers as they tend to make it up to alter the laws of physics as they go along :D
with mine standard and non standard was a reference to the state of tune as they already knew it was a foreign engine conversion.

they'll just insure it as a 318iS, thats normal practice is to insure you on the vehical the engine came from

My touring is insured as having a "non standard" engine.

Doest matter anyway. Sky insurance have come along and undercut Elephant and I spoke to them on the phone so they have the recording of me saying its an engine from a 318IS, all is good and no chance of selecting the wrong option. Only undercut them by 25quid mind but even so. I feel happier now that when renewal comes along there can be no doubt that it isnt insured correctly.
