is any one pee'd off with newbies selling stuff, without pics, discriptions, price and location???
i know it's not all newbies, but alot have been on lately with under 10 posts trying to sell stuff, most of the time you never see them again.
there are others who should know better by now and still chance it by saying (feeler for ............)

I dont see it as a problem, at the end of the day as long as its only E30 stuff there selling then its all good, you wouldnt be saying that if you needed something that was rare and a noob with under 10 posts put an advert up for said item

Agreed in part, but failing to show pictures and give price and location is just a PITA

I still think they should have a certain post count so they actually get involved on the site rather than earn a few quid out of it .
Quite a few sites you have to be a paid up member or have a minimum post count , Basically stops people just coming on to sell stuff .
Fair enough it might be something people want but i wuldnt touch unless i could collect .
Problem is , They come on and make a post then disappear and most the time the post is locked as lack of pic etc so waste of time advertising tbh
Fuey , Stop moaning , We all know zoners havent got any money anyway

The one that annoys me is the 'I'll get pics later'.
Just get the feckin' pics and THEN post the thread!
I can't say the newbies selling stuff annoys me, I suspect that happens on most forums and is almost unavoidable without draconian rules and regs!

the ford site is goldmembers only for selling. £20 a year for goldmembership but theres also a selling rating below your username so buyers can check out your feedback first.

the point i was making was not so much of what they are selling, its they are not getting involved with the zone, ie. no help on the tech help thread, or joining in with discussions or meets etc.
they sell bits then bugger off, if they want just to sell, fair enough, charge them as traiders

I don't think it's a big hassle. I bought some bits from a guy with a low post count and had no problems, he didn't post again once he'd sold all the bits from his breaker - I paid on collection. He did have pics and location though, and a phone number for that matter.
There will always be chancers, but you don't have to buy anything from them - just click the back button when you've read enough! I guess the only issue is them knocking bona fide for sale threads down the list, but it's not as if there's so much nonsense that it clogs the board.
In a perfect world, everyone would read the rules and stick to them, but that ain't gonna happen, and the mods do a pretty good job of getting rid of the rubbish.

I do see what you're saying, but does it really matter?
In fact I think I'd prefer them to sell on here than give money to those useless feckers at Ebay!
Besides, if they sell their goods then they've helped out a 'Zoner who wanted / needed those goods.

i wouldnt buy anything from a new member with low post count purely as a precaution against losing my cash anyway as living up here its unlikely i could pay on collection for most stuff.

The only thing that would worry me buying from someone who has only come on here to make one post and thats to sell stuff, would be if they did a runner with my money and were never seen again. At least with the majority of the sellers on here, they are regular users.
As BeemerBird says though, pictures and location is a must, it doesn't take much effort does it. What they got to hide.
And there does seem to have been a lot breaking the rules lately for sure.

i'm not saying selling their stuff on here is bad, but at least with most people on here if there is a problem with an item it can be sorted out as the seller would want to stay on the zone,
with some one just selling they might sell crap and not worry about the buyer.
i like to think that the people on the zone would try to help and support each other, not to stich each other up, these sellers may not have that loyalty to fellow zoners or e30 owners

youll always get rip off merchants on any site. i bet theres a few here that have ripped off someone and rejoined under a different username. i trust no one until they have a proven track record,it might be unfair to tar all newbies with the same brush but it keeps my money lining my pockets.

I see your points about how people should get more involved with the site but lets say noob jonny (made up name) inherited his granddads old 325 sport, he has no interest in E30's but wants to sell it to an enthusiast. Bit of an extreme scenario I know but I’m just trying to make a point.
I would rather the noobs came on here to sell there bits so we get first dibs on it rather than them putting it on ebay where everyone can get in on it, besides a lot of noobs don’t actually know what they are selling so you can find some real bargains
The way I see it we all need parts now and again so why complain when people offer parts for sale regardless of wheatear or not they use the forum.
If they were taking the piss and trying to sell all sorts of crap I would see your point but personally the more people on here selling E30 parts the better regardless of how often they post

HKF, I know you've had bad experience, but the recent drive on forcing Pics, Location, Price of items for sale should weed out 90% of the messers.
eBay is a multi-billion corporation and still get the occasional asshole ripping people off. - I don't think we do too badly here.
If someone does wrong, it's not the Zone's fault or responsibility really. - I think the team do a sterling job and charging money to advertise would drive away some of the opportunities to pick up morsels for not a lot of shekels. ;)

How about if your new only allowed to sell 1 item a month or list 1 posting a month with all your items listed, if your a paying zone gold is it? allowed more ads and ofcourse unlimited to traders....it's not like traders fees is like hundreds of pounds either.

What you're really looking for is honesty and transparency and that is something that either will or won't exist in someone selling stuff. Regardless of how new they are.
The Mods have posted up the 'Please Read Before Posting' guidance, and some people will always be happy to jump through hoops whilst others will just chance their luck and wait for their prey

I've no problem with newbies selling stuff.. even people with many posts cant be trustworthy! They could easily just spam up the forum like Imye30 does.
I have a problem with people asking how to remove items and then serving them up to people, sorry but a lot of knowledge is from trial and error, I am not willing to help anyone because frankly it's disgraceful and those who do it should be ashamed of themselves.

i think a yearly paid membership type scheme (£10? £20?) for sellers helps to discourage flyby nights and contributes to the site running costs. is there anywhere else that would allow free advertising for you to make money of someone elses back from a specific captive audience ?

I think it would be a shame as the quick and easy interchange of parts would be compromised. I'm no seller and I wouldn't pay to post adverts but I would offer things I don't need mostly with the main motivation of helping others out.

I'm simply stating that it is easy to rack up a hoard of posts very quickly and easily and Imy is simply the best example I can think of. If you can find another feel free to post up too. I'm not having a pop at anyone but the scummers who ask how to break a car then make money on our knowledge. Kind of like getting someone to copy BTB's manifold work, or copying DVD's etc, just dont agree.

Wtf have Btb,s manifold, or copies of got to do with this.
Just as well there was,nt a patent on the first wheel, or we,d all
be fecked. As for copies of DVD,s, you mean to say you,ve never
borrowed one?.

From blockbusters yes.
maybe DVD's was a bad example but someone has already done the R&D then letting someone else profit from potentially a lot of hard work and/or many mistakes

I think the phrase ”astabbing your self in the foot”a applies here, as it stands at the moment with in a month or less you can pretty much source anything you want for an E30 on here even some really rare bits and bobs, if half the things people are proposing on this thread came about that would soon change.
Don’t forget we are living in trying times right now and if you had to pay to advertise I think even some of the regulars would stop listing things on here.
Like I said before as long as its E30 related I don’t see the problem.
The whole trust thing is simple, if they only have one post don’t send money via the net go and collect your item in person providing they aint to far away.
newbies, sales & saddo's

i've been a member of the zone for 4 years now and think its a fantastic resource. i'm still considered a newbie - thats because i use the site as an when required eg. if i'm looking for parts, have parts to sell or want advice - isnt that what its all about??
I personally dont have a problem with ads with no pictures - you know what you want and if you know your cars, you should have a pretty good idea what its gonna look like and at the end of the day if someone is daft enough to buy something without seein it first!!! ...if you dont trust the ad or seller - then dont buy - simple!
i do, however, get really "pee'd off" with those zoners who seem to have nothing better to do than search through the for sale ads just so that they can make sarcastic, rude or other off putting comments on other peoples for sale posts (or is it an easy way to boost their post count??). totally pointless - it could cost someone a sale. let prospective buyers make their own mind up.
So come on guys if anything's gonna change , stop the saddo's trying to sabotage sales, give them a few unwanted M badges to polish, should keep em busy for a while.

It's all about developing a community supporting the longevity of the cars to my mind. The place wouldn't exist if it was just people dropping in and out occasionally. Popping in for help is all very well and good but to my mind you should offer the help back. I don't know all that much about e30s but I try my best to help when I can (read: when I stumble upon a thread before someone more knowledgeable does).
If you just pop in every now and again I can understand why you wouldn't have a problem with the lack of pictures or price or whatever but the fact is those rules make this forum an extremely smooth place to be. I think it's a perfectly sensible rule. There's never any honest harm in posting a picture and most of what is sold here really needs a picture since condition is critical.
I agree that people can be harsh about various threads but this has a number of sides. I think as a forum we do not want new people coming on and getting ripped off, it doesn't help with the community. It's also often helpful feedback as the issue of pricing is a difficult one. People are in general honest and while people will criticise a high price they will also note a low price as well. Then there is the banter which makes up much of the spirit of any forum.
Edit: On the post count mine seems to have gone decidedly evil after this post

.
