My local dealer = Waste of space

I just called my local dealer (Cooper Croydon) as I need a few bits for the weekend (and Cotswold seem to be on holiday this week). They told me that to order any parts I need to actually go in there (they won't do transactions over the phone) order and pay for the parts then go in again a few days later to pick them up. That is ridiculous.

They should be able to take a credit card number over the phone

Cooper Norwich has always been happy to take my order over the phone and then for me to pay on collection.

That's what I thought but apparently not. He said something about a few spoiling it for the many, and people ripping them off with dodgy cards.
Sorted it out with our tame bmw dealer Cotswold now though so all is well.

Every dealership seems to have a different approach to how they handle telephone orders.
Depends sometimes on who answers the phone, my local (Woods in Bournemouth) generally don't take phone orders, but I have been in there picking up parts when they said I should have phoned the order through instead of driving over twice...

I just email my local dealers Castle BMW and they order the parts and email me when they have arrived, I have offered to pay with a card at the point of ordering but they just prefer to be paid when I go to collect them.
Seems they are all different in their approach.

I just phone up the local dealer's and order whatever i'm after, they call me back a couple of days later, when it's arrived in stock and leave me a message.
I then go in past on the saturday morning to collect and pay.
If there's no rush, I'll use Cotswolds as there usully cheaper.

Adrian, next time you call cooper croydon, ask to speak to paul miles. Tell him you know me, he will look after you. I dont think they take card payment over the phone but i'm sure he will let you order over the phone and pay and collect when they are in.
I've only had to pay up front once but that was for a £780 order of which all of it had to be ordered from germany.

That's exactly why they don't get any of my business!
They could give me 10% discount and have 100% of my business, instead I've used Cotswolds, and the dealer in Southampton I forget the name of (Send the Mrs there in her lunch break, she loves me really..)

I only use Cotswolds, my nearest stealer is 15-20 miles away and I am never anyway near. At least with Cotswolds you get it to your door.

When reading the title I expected you to be in Bristol and talking about Dick Lovett....

Cheers Barry, I'll bear that in mind.
I've dealt with Coopers in Norwich too, they seem pretty good. I bought a diff gasket from them which cost all of £1 but they still wrapped it up in a jiffy bag (which probably cost more than the gasket!).

I use Woods in Salisbury. I used to do a bit of business with them and helped the parts manager out with a van when his parts van broke! I just phone up with the part numbers I need. Order them, pay for them. They post out an invoice and I go and collect. Name drop the manager and get my discount.
