One for the MOT testers (or people in the know!!!!!)

I got a couple od advisory's on my MOT yesterday.
As far as I've been told, if I get the same advisory next time it becomes a fail.
What I would like to know is, is that true?

Thing is one of our advisory's is -
"Rear exhaust noise just within limits"

I don't plan on changing my back box again. I just got it how I like and get it to fit 'right'.

If it stays, will it fail it's MOT next year??

I think the noise level is down to the tester's discretion on the day, he probably thinks that the baffles have gone and that it will be louder next year.

If the noise level stays the same or drops with a bit more carbon in there then it should pass again.

My advice would be to find a deaf MOT tester next time :)

(Either that or one that isn't a jobsworth)

So it's a kinda hit and miss thing?

Am I right saying if an advisory comes up again, it's a fail??

My ex boss used to Advise things year on year, if it doesn’t get louder and is in no danger of falling off then it may well be advised again but should not fail. :)

i think thats ridiculous to get an advisory and possibly fail on "noise"

Well the police have pulled us over in the car but not for the noise, it was cos the damn thing had no MOT. We were 4 weeks behind. We thought it was due to run out end of Feb and it ran out end of Jan :(

They said nothing about the noise.
We're alot less noisey than the rally car over the road and the car he drives everyday too (ford focus rs typey thing) and althoough it's a lot smaller, there's a motobike powered mini whizzing round that makes my ears ring.

I will fail a car that's too noisey i did to day, but it was just silly, again it depends on the tester, my sportx chav box is not two bad but some you just can't hear your salf over.

the guy i use for mots told me the other day that theres a new rule about exhaust noise any loude than standard as of 1st apr is automatic fail. ive had the same advisory on my discovery for 3 yrs running so you shouldnt be failed if it comes up next year again
