Im new....need some advice for E30 project!

Hi Guys,

Being a huge fan of the E30 325i when I was a poor student and a bad experience with a dodgy A-Reg 323, Ive been looking to fulfill my dream of owning a 325is spec E30. Well, I got myself a Porsche Boxster but nowhere as enjoyable as a E30 325i!

Right, after looking high and low Ive managed to find a well looked after 1988 E30 325i SE 2 door in Lachs silver. 1 owner from brand new with every receipt since 1988!

Now the plan.....

M-tec 2 kit
M-tec 2 steering wheel and gearstick.
De-chromed
full leather recaro interior
17" Alpina (or replica) alloys
ICE - nothing overboard (6x9s in rear and 2 ways in kick panels)

Now, being out of the Beemer scene for many many years I would appreciate any contacts in sourcing any of the above. In paticular Im after the recaro interior and any good bodyshop for the supply/fit of the kit. Looked on Ebay but hard to find.

I live in the London/Essex area but willing to travel.

Cheers

Jey

hi and welcome

Best way id do it is sell the se 325i and buy a proper minted sport as this would save you a lot of time and expense.
Andy at WLN automotive 01253 304487 has mint sports with all the work done..u pay a bit more but the cars are 100% spot on

Just my opinon though

Thanks, but I think part of the fun is to restore it back to a full 325is spec. Dont mind spending the money as long as I get good results. The car drives beautifully for the year and at this moment is having a service and inspection. I saw a 325is in lach silver on this site which is exactly how I want it looking.

I want to get the ball rolling and get the interior and kit fitted, so anyone with who knows where I can source a leather recaro interior and kit let me know.

Cheers!

Here is probably your best bet to get all your requirements with the exception of the ICE.Just keep checking the parts for sale section.

Body kit apart you will need the sport gearbox , diff , suspension so that it feels like a sport.
You may want to add the oil cooler has this sits behind the front body kit. Interior you will need the rear view mirror and anthracite roof lining as well as the sport seats.

Interesting thought.... my Boxster is the old 2.5 straight 6 pot before Porsche took it upto 2.7. My E30, 2.5 straight 6 pot....wonder how they`ll compare head to head!

On the E30s, were the 325s 16 or 24V?

Actually 12 valve, 2 valves per cylinder and 6 cylinders.

*sniff*

So it wasn't my (old) car you saw then that gave you inspiration...?

Boxters are flat 6's as opposed to a straight 6...

Ahh yes, 12V it is but arnt the E36 and newer ones with 24V?

Flat and straight six.....whats the difference?

the E36's are 24 valve machines...

A 'flat 6' engine has 2 banks of 3 pistons horizontally opposed to each other... making a flat but low engine, while a 'straight 6' has 6 cylinders all in line with each other... which makes for a longer engine.

Ahh I see, thanks for that. So isnt a flat 6 the same as a V6 as it has 3 cyclinders either side?

BTW Geeman, your E30 is also a mighty fine lady!

Nope... flat 6's are completely flat, 180 degress to each other, where as a V6 (as it's name implies) is in a V shape. These can range from anywhere from 45 degrees to as little as 5 degrees...

Thanks... she was a fine lady... till I sold her the other week!
